New Orleans Pelicans
From 4–0 to 4–4, the Pelicans have lost all the ground they gained with their hot start, at least in terms of wins over .500. New Orleans has lost four in a row heading into Saturday’s game in San Antonio.
But at least the four losses have been to respectable opponents: at home against Utah and then three consecutive road games: at Denver, at Golden State and at Portland.

The brutal road trip continues with this game in San Anton and then another in OKC. The Pels get to host the Bulls and then the Suns afterward so at least they’ll be rewarded with a couple of cupcakes at the end of this trade.

Still, you feel like they must be putting a lot of emphasis of at least coming out of this road trip with two wins out of five, which will now only be possible by winning this one and the game against the Thunder. I think we’ll get a max effort out of New Orleans tonight.
Jahlil Okafor’s production has steadily declined since he averaged nearly eighteen points per game as a rookie. He’s not playing regularly with New Orleans but has looked ok in the minutes he has earned. He’s scored at least six points in his last three games played and has actually started his last two, with a DNP in between.
San Antonio Spurs
All the injuries, all the changes, it was supposed to be a down year for the Spurs (we’ve heard that before), which so far has not transpired.
San Antonio has won three in a row to get to 5–2 in the early going. The Spurs have beaten the Lakers, Mavs and Suns in their last three.

DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge combined for forty-nine against the Suns on Wednesday, which was the last time the Spurs were in action. Those two have handled most all of the heavy lifting, with role players chipping in here and there.
So while the Spurs look fine for now I’m concerned just slightly about the rest of the year for a couple of reasons. For one, the schedule has been light to start and I’m skeptical how the Spurs will handle the meat of the Western Conference when that time comes.
The other is the fact that DeRozan and Aldridge are playing so many minutes and scoring so much. If one goes down, or if they simply tire, I’m not sure how much Gregg Popovich has behind them.
