The New Orleans Pelicans shocked the NBA (and more specifically the Portland Trail Blazers) with their Round 1 performance. They swept their opponent and had the four best players in the series with Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday, Nikola Mirotic and Rajon Rondo taking over night after night.

The Golden State Warriors, while not getting the full sweep, also took care of business in the first round by knocking off the Kawhi Leonard-less San Antonio Spurs.
The two teams begin their Round 2 showdown Saturday night on TNT.
New Orleans Pelicans
If you told me you expected to the Pelicans to be here after DeMarcus Cousins went down with a reputed Achilles tendon, I’m either going to call you a liar to your face or kindly request next week’s lotto numbers.
(Maybe I’ll just do both to play it safe.)

New Orleans has been the feel-good story of the playoffs so far, and while we know what Anthony Davis is capable of, it’s the pieces around him who are stepping up in a way few foresaw.
Jrue Holiday was incredible on both sides of the ball, making Damian Lillard look like your average run-of-the-mill point guard. Speaking of run-of-the-mill point guards, Rajon Rondo is one no more, as Playoff Rondo made his official return.
Nikola Mirotic, a.k.a. The Now-Beardless Wonder, found himself exploiting Portland’s power forward carousel on a regular basis, and yes, Anthony Davis was his typical MVP self.
As good as those four looked against the Blazers, the Warriors are a different animal. They’ll need similar performances if they hope to end Golden State’s reign as the cream of the West.
Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors ended up with a nice draw in the San Antonio Spurs during Round 1. With Kawhi Leonard out, the Spurs were going to struggle against anyone, but they proved to be completely outclassed with the exception of Manu Ginobili’s Game 4 vintage performance.

Against the Pelicans, Golden State remains the most talented group of the two. That would be true against literally any opponent.
But the big story here is about Stephen Curry’s health. The knee injury that kept him out of the first round still hasn’t been cleared, and it’s uncertain when he’ll be able to make his comeback.
If the Warriors’ starting superstar point guard isn’t ready, Jrue Holiday’s life becomes much easier.
Free New Orleans Pelicans vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Series Prediction:
Curry’s status will have a big impact in this series, but the honest truth is that it will likely determine whether this game goes 5 games or 6—not if the Warriors win or lose.
If Steph is out, the Pelicans should be able to steal a game on the road as well as get a game at home. But if the better half of the Splash Bros is back by Game 3, the Pelicans will struggle to win a single game past that initial steal.
