Saturday sees the tangle of the Central-leading Milwaukee Bucks and the fledgling New York Knickerbockers. It would be lovely if the home team Knicks put up a gamely chance against an NBA superstar. Sadly, it seems less than likely to occur. Hey, silver lining: At least the game is to be played at iconic ‘MSG’.
New York Knicks
It seems like the Knicks have been rebuilding since Spike Lee wore short pants. New experiments abound and new criticism gets lofted at owner James Dolan, yet one of pro basketball’s flagship franchises never seems to get any better. They are once again well under .500 so far in 2018-19 and on the outside looking in on the playoff picture.

I mean, they have some OK players. Michigan Wolverine product Tim Hardaway Jr., is a shoot-first guard, which means he’s not unlike his Dad that used to be a star for the Warriors and the Heat many moons ago. Fellow guard Trey Burke can jar the three-pointer when he needs to and big man Enes Kanter can play some ‘D’. But still, the Knicks simply don’t have the collection of players they need to in order to make waves against the Golden States, Torontos, Philadelphias and yes, Milwaukees of the world.
Coach Jeff Hornacek still has a lot of work to do with these guys, and he might join the heavy ranks of Knicks coaches to fall on the sword for poor middle and upper management. It’s really a shame in the city that is considered the ‘Basketball Mecca’. An upset win against the Bucks would at least get some positive vibes going.

Surprisingly the Knicks haven’t been pushing pace (rank 24th) – an area of the game most expected Hornacek would attempt to employ. Nor are the quad fairing well in any of the key categories as their 25th offensive rand and 23rd defensive rank demonstrates.
As the Knicks progress the mandate needs to be centered on building an identity and figuring what system can net results with their current roster.
Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks have who is probably the best overall superstar in the NBA right now – and I know that’s a bold statement – in ‘The Greek Freak’, Giannis Antetokounmpo. The 6’11, 245-lb genetic freak (in a league full of them) can do everything on the court, in the mould of LeBron James or Anthony Davis. He obviously leads Milwaukee in points per game (27.3) and rebounds (13 per) he’s also chipping in nearly a block and a half per game on the defensive end.
He alone could carry the Bucks through a round or two of the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Bucks currently sit first in the Central division, with a 15-6 mark. They’re a comfortable 2.5 games up on Detroit and Indiana. When it isn’t Giannis wreaking havoc, Khris Middleton, Malcolm Brogdon and Eric Bledsoe show some game. They are all putting up at least 15 points per contest. Not to be outdone – did I mention that Greek Freak is also chipping in six assists. He really is a Swiss army knife for this talented ballclub.

Milwaukee is coming off a narrow win against the Chicago Bulls, and has actually looked fallible lately, recently suffering losses to Charlotte and the lowly Phoenix Suns. The approximately .300 win percentage Knicks might be the perfect tonic to restore the Bucks to convincing victories and ultimately, the top gear they can achieve on a nightly basis.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Bucks are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
- Bucks are 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.
- Knicks are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games playing on 2 days rest.
- Knicks are 7-19-1 ATS in their last 27 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
Free Milwaukee Bucks vs. New York Knicks NBA Prediction:
I just don’t see the Knicks being able to keep up with Antetokounmpo and Milwaukee’s respectable collection of secondary scorers defensively. The Freak should dunk early and often, and the defensive attention he requires opens up so many opportunities for players like Middleton and Brogdon.
This game has blowout potential with the Bucks simply being too much for New York. Maybe the unpredictable happens and Hardaway ends up striping the ball and other good, under-utilized shooters like Burke and Allonzo Trier actually come out firing, but it seems like little more than a daydream. Expect the Bucks to have this one handily.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Bucks ATS
At least New York’s basketball-patient fans (are they? I certainly hope so) get a first-hand glimpse of a current NBA supernova talent. That’s worth the price of admission to Madison Square even if he isn’t on your team.
