The Miami Heat and the New York Knicks will square off for the second time this season on Wednesday’s game.
The Heat won the first meeting between these two teams and hope to sweep the season series with a win on Wednesday and again on Friday when these teams meet again.
Miami Heat
The Heat have lost three of their last five coming into Tuesday’s game versus the Detroit Pistons, and thus will be in the second game of a back to back against the Knicks on Wednesday.
The Heat had a midseason surge to put themselves in playoff position and currently hold the eight seed by a half a game over the Chicago Bulls.
Over the last five games, the Heat have been surging offensively but have also been giving up more points defensively than they’ve been accustomed to this season. All but one of their wins or losses during this stretch have been by eight points or more.

Also during this stretch, the Heat have been at, or over, Wednesday’s betting total of 209 in four of the five games and the average total during that time has been just over 212.
Part of the increased scoring can be attributed to the quality of opponent, as they have faced off against two teams (Portland and Phoenix) in the bottom five of the league defensively.
Yet it’s possible that they have been hampered during this time as well as an integral part of their team, Goran Dragic, has been dealing with a nagging foot injury. During this five game stretch his scoring totals have been down five points compared to his season averages and his efficiency numbers have taken a dive as well.

Yet every win counts for the Heat at this point in the season, as they are protecting a highly contested playoff spot from the Chicago Bulls and there are more teams lurking, less than two games out of the playoff race.
But in the second game of a back to back, their fortitude may be tested in this contest.
New York Knicks
The Knicks have lost four of their last five coming into Wednesday’s game versus the Miami Heat.
The Knicks started the season with some promise that saw them over .500 through the first 30 games of the season. Since then they’ve taken an aggressive turn towards the bottom of the league.
The Knicks have gone 12-32 since then and their serious lack of depth has been a big reason why. They were billed as a team with an above average starting lineup and should they stay healthy, a team that could compete for a lower end playoff spot.
And during their last five they are even struggling to score points on par with their season averages, which can be attributed to facing off against two of the better defensive teams in the league in San Antonio and Utah.

However there could be more at work than simply playing against good defensive teams, as they also struggled to score against a Portland team that has had problems stopping people all year long.
Their defense will also take a hit in this game, as Joakim Noah won’t be roaming the middle, as Noah is fresh off a 20 game suspension for taking performance enhancing drugs.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Miami is 24-35 vs. the total when greater than 200
- New York has averaged less than the 209 betting total in their last 10 games
Free Miami Heat vs. New York Knicks NBA Prediction:
Both teams have had trouble scoring over their recent contests and aren’t ordinarily teams that light up the scoreboard in the first place. Miami has incentive to win but I would take the under on the betting total.
