The second half of the NBA season is upon us. To end the first half of the season, the Heat did not play well, and have lost two in a row. They are currently in the playoffs if the season were to end today.
The New Orleans Pelicans are also an eighth seed playoff team if the season ended today, and have won three straight.
The last time the Heat and Pelicans took the floor against each other, was December 23rd. The Pelicans got the win, 109-94. The Pelicans had DeMarcus Cousins in the last meeting. He is out for the year.
Miami Heat
The Miami Heat are sitting in the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference right now. Before the break, the Heat finished 1-7 over their last eight games. The struggles started against the Cavaliers, losing 91-89, and finished with a two games losing streak.
The most recent loss coming against the 76ers, 104-102.

The Heat have what it takes to make the playoffs in the East. Miami was playing so well at one point of the season, they were in the sixth seed.
If Miami can turn things on again, and make a playoff push, they must get back to playing better basketball. Goran Dragic will be one of the reasons why.
Dragic was the Heat’s only All Star this season. His 17.4 points per game this year lead the Heat in scoring. With the return of Dwayne Wade, Wade’s leadership can be key down the stretch of the season.
Hasaan Whiteside will also need to play up to his All NBA ability.

Aside from the Heat’s good roster, they must get back on track. Look for Dwayne Wade’s play in the fourth quarter’s during the second half of the season, to be key in the Heat’s success.
Eric Spoelstra is a proven coach, and if anyone can get the Heat back on track, it will be Spoelstra.
The Heat have a talented enough roster to make a push for a fifth or sixth seed in the East. If Wade can resemble his old self, the Heat could be first round spoilers.
New Orleans Pelicans
The New Orleans Pelicans are playing better without Boogie Cousins. Not better than when he was healthy, but better than they were after his injury.
Anthony Davis has said the team could contend with Cousins in the lineup. Without him, the Pelicans are clinging to a half game lead over the Clippers, for the final seed in the Western Conference.
If the Pelicans are going to make the playoffs this season, it will be because of the outstanding play of Anthony Davis. Davis is averaging 27.4 points, and 10.7 rebounds per game this year. Expect Davis to continue to excel for New Orleans.
The question is, who will be the other go to guy for New Orleans?

Nicola Mirotic, was brought over from the Bulls to try and equal the success Cousins had before his injury. Mirotic might need some time to adjust. His play with the Pelicans has not been close to how he played with the Bulls.
If he can’t perform half as well as he did in Chicago, New Orleans is going to struggle the rest of the year.

Free Miami Heat vs. New Orleans Pelicans NBA Prediction:
Expect the Heat to come into the second half of the season motivated. The team is talented enough to make noise in the playoffs, and it will start tonight against the Pelicans. Look for a big defensive game from the Heat in this one.
The Pelicans are going to rely more heavily on Anthony Davis than in recent years. If Davis is able to keep his team winning int the West, he should be on the short list of MVP candidates.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Heat +2.5
Davis is super talented, but won’t be enough to beat the Heat in this one. Take the Heat plus the points on the road in this one.
