Thursday NBA sees six games taking place in the first day back from All-Star Weekend. This season, the league gave teams a few extra days off to recover for the season’s unofficial second-half sprint.
The matchup of the night comes in the late game. The LA Clippers travel approximately five-and-a-half hours north to take on the current top seed in the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors.
The Warriors will be favored in this one, but the Clippers have momentum on their side and just might be getting a crucial part of their roster back.
*All statistics, standings, rankings and trends are current as of this writing on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. ET.
LA Clippers
The Clippers enter this contest having won their last four games. That was a huge turn heading into the All-Star break considering they had dropped seven of nine before that stretch.
At this point in the year, LA is averaging 107.9 points per night. That number is good enough for eighth in the league.

As it would happen, the Clippers are also eighth in points per game allowed. They give up 104.1 points per night.
In terms of advanced efficiency stats, the numbers remain largely the same. This group’s offensive efficiency put it at seventh in the league, while its defensive efficiency “slips” to ninth.

But while the numbers don’t lie when it comes to how good this team is, there’s been something missing: Chris Paul.
Reports have it that Paul may return for Thursday’s action. The Clippers may ultimately decide that they’re willing to give up a meaningless win to the Warriors and keep Paul out an extra game, but his return is imminent.
Keep an eye on his status leading up to this contest.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors lost an unexpected game (in blowout fashion) to the Denver Nuggets in the days leading up to All-Star Weekend, but they recovered nicely with a 109-86 victory over the Sacramento Kings.
This group enters Thursday night averaging 118.2 points per game. That number is good enough for first in the league.
Defensively, the numbers on the surface don’t look nearly as impressive. Golden State gives up 105.4 points per game, which is barely enough to put it in the top half of the league at 14th.
But here’s the catch: That defensive number has everything to do with pace. The Warriors run the second-fastest pace in the league — faster pace equals more possessions, and more possessions inevitably equal more points.
So far this season, Golden State is second in defensive efficiency behind only the San Antonio Spurs.

If you’re all of a suddenly skeptical that the team’s points-per-game average is a mere byproduct of the pace, consider that this group is first in offensive efficiency.
This team, as crazy as it sounds, has no true weakness.

Free LA Clippers vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
Both the Clippers and the Warriors have fared well ATS recently. If Chris Paul plays, this one has a chance of remaining clost.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Warriors -11.5
Then again, Golden State is a different animal. If Paul plays, you’re looking at what could likely still be a 10-point loss for LA.
We’re going with the Warriors at this point in the proccess.
