Entering 2017-18, there’s little reason to expect a different scenario. The Dubs are favorites to win the West (-275), they’re favorites to win the championship (-160) and although the Boston Celtics will challenge Cleveland out East, most expect the Dubs will once again face the Cavs in the Finals for an unprecedented fourth time.
All that said, you never know what will happen…
Yes, we’re pretty sure we know what will happen. But it doesn’t hurt to take a look at the strengths and weaknesses of the league’s consensus best team as we inch closer toward the new season.
Golden State Warriors Strengths:
Where do we begin…
I guess we start with the unbelievable star power this team possesses. Kevin Durant. Stephen Curry. Draymond Green. Klay Thompson.
Let’s start with the fact that their fourth-best player is one of the greatest shooters in the NBA—if not one of the greatest pure shooters the league has ever seen.

He may not receive much credit at this point, but let’s not forget that he owns the league record for points in a quarter with 37 and just last season he went off for 60 points in just 29 minutes against the Indiana Pacers.
As far as the team’s third-best player, he’s arguably the most versatile player in league history.
He defends the perimeter with the best of them, he defends the rim with the best of them, he now spreads the court on offense and he’s a walking stat-stuffer in the most productive way imaginable.
What about the Warriors’ second-best player you ask? He’s just a two-time MVP who may actually be the NBA’s greatest shooter of all time.
And as for the best, he’s entering his second season with the Dubs and has the potential to be even better with a full year under his belt playing with this squad.

We could go on and on talking about how this team is historically dominant on both offense and defense, how it can create offense in as fluid a fashion as the league has ever seen and how it’s literally built for adversity with its deep roster.
But what it really comes down to is the star power. As last year proved, you just can’t beat that.
Golden State Warriors Weaknesses:
Believe it or not, this team does have weaknesses. None of them are detrimental…but they do exist.
For starters, head coach Steve Kerr was recently quoted saying that complacency will be this team’s biggest concern in 2017-18. What does that mean, you ask? It means they’re damn good, they know it, and they need to avoid taking a step off the gas even when they know they can sleep walk to a win.
A more tangible weakness is their crunch-time success, or lack thereof from a year ago. It’s actually surprising, really. Last season, this group failed to put teams away in close contests.
Does that have something to do with complacency? It very well could. But the team needs to fix that if it’s going to avoid getting stale.
On top of that, shot creation off the bench has been a concern. Overall depth is not an issue with this team. And to be honest, a newcomer like Nick Young could help remedy this.
But as deep as the roster goes, when the starters sit, the offense no longer looks like a work of art.
We’re admittedly picking nits here, but we have to when it comes to the league’s most elite roster.
None of these weaknesses are going to define them this season…but they will be talking points if the Warriors struggle at any point during the 82-game slate.
Golden State Warriors Betting Prediction: 69-13
Picking a team to win 69 games is absurd. You should never, ever, ever do it.
Unless you’re talking about this year’s Warriors.

The truth is that a near-70-win prediction is pretty unheard of. But this year’s squad has earned it. Remember, not only was last season Durant’s first year—a year of supposed acclimation—it was also a year in which he sat a significant number of games due to injury.
Vegas has pegged the Warriors at a 67.5 over/under, and we’re calling that conservative.
It’s true that the Houston Rockets got better and the San Antonio Spurs are who they are. But the truth is that we contemplated giving this group 70 wins.
We couldn’t bring ourselves to get over the mental block of predicting a team to win a number of games that starts with a “7” so this is what you get.
