Tuesday, January 12th finds the Denver Nuggets playing the Brooklyn Nets for the first time in the 2020-21 campaign.
Last season, the teams played twice with each club securing a victory. The Nuggets hold the all-time record winning 50 of the 92 matches.
Over the next 15 games the Nuggets will play 10 games on the road. They began a three-game trip on Saturday catching a lucky break in Philly with the 76ers dressing a league-minimum eight players and only playing seven as Mike Scott is still nursing an injury.
Likewise, Denver caught the Knicks in a bit of a rut as they are struggling to put points on the board. They’ll look to take a road sweep with a win in Brooklyn on Tuesday.
The 114-89 victory at MSG was so complete the Nuggets were able to play the majority of the second half with their reserve unit. That fact likely stopped Nikola Jokic from claiming another triple-double but he did post a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Gary Harris (14), Monte Morris (12), PJ Dozier (12) Paul Millsap (10), and JaMychal Green (10) all contributed double-figure scoring.
Michael Porter Jr. is undertaking the NBA health and safety protocols and remains out for an undetermined timeframe. Greg Whittington is recouping from a sprained knee with no definitive return date.
The shine that was on the Brooklyn Nets after opening the season with two massive wins by huge margins isn’t quite so lustrous anymore.
Since then the Nets are 3-6 with the losses highlighting the major deficiencies on the defensive side of the floor. First time head coach Steve Nash appeared flustered following the loss to the Thunder — a team who now has a better win percentage and is supposed to be headed for the lottery!
Nash called out his team for lacking pride or displaying a competitive fire following the loss.
Kevin Durant returned to the court following a three-game absence while quarantining to lead his club with a double-double of 36 points and 11 rebounds. Jarrett Allen also reached that benchmark with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Four others reached double-digit scoring including Caris LeVert (21), Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot (12), Taurean Prince (11), and Joe Harris (10).
While Brooklyn got out to a great start scoring 41 points in the opening frame and took a 63-57 lead into the half they weren’t able to sustain that effort in the second half.
Rather, the Thunder locked in defensively exposing the Nets inability to counteract on that side of the hardwood. OKC won the second half 72-55 leading to a 129-116 victory.
Kyrie Irving (personal) and Tyler Johnson (health and safety) have missed the last three games with both questionable for Tuesday.
Spencer Dinwiddie (knee) is out for the season while Nicolas Claxton (knee) has no definitive return date.

How will the Nets respond to Nash’s concerns and will Irving return to play?
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Nuggets ATS
The one big takeaway is the majority of Brooklyn’s wins have come against elite teams. While the Jokic – Durant matchup is compeling it’s worth noting Jamal Murray wasn’t taxed in the two prior games and he could be ready for a big offensive night.
