The Denver Nuggets are not one of the most talked about teams in the NBA, but would soon like to get there. The Nuggets finished last season at 40-42. Two games under .500 and narrowly missing the playoffs.
Now the question for Denver is if they can seal the deal at the end of the year, and earn a playoff birth in 2018.
Denver Nuggets Strengths:
The Denver Nuggets are one of the youngest teams in the NBA. Point guard Emanuel Mudiay returns for the Nuggets. He brings his 11 points and four assists back for 2018.
Shooting guard Gary Harris looks to be a leader this year. The Michigan State product averaged almost 15 points per game last year. He was limited to 57 games last season.

With Harris and Mudiay back for Denver. Fans can expect more excitement this season. Especially if the two can play over 70 games together.
Outside of the back court, the Nuggets don’t have a true NBA star. The addition of Paul Millsap at power forward should give the Nuggets a little identity. His veteran leadership and polished post skills, will definitely bolster the Nuggets front court.
Millsap came over in free agency from the Hawks. He averaged 18 points and seven rebounds for Atlanta last season. The Nuggets are hopeful he can fill the score void left by Danilo Gallinari.
Wilson Chandler will start against this season for the Nuggets at small forward. Chandler is the Nuggets best player on both sides of the ball. He averaged 15.7 points per game last year and only started in 33 games.
Nikola Jokic will start at center this year. Jokic quietly averaged 17 points and nine rebounds last season for the Nuggets.

At 6’10 Jokic is a little undersized at the five, but is better than most NBA centers. He has soft touch and decent rebounding abitity. If he put on a little some weight in the off season, Jokic could average close to 20 points per game this year.
Denver Nuggets Weaknesses:
The Nuggets lack star power. This is not bad in all instances, but in the NBA no team has won without a true star since the Detroit Pistons of the early 2000’s.
The Nuggets should hoover around the 7th-9th seed in the Western conference this season. The Nuggets also need a leader. Who will lead the locker room this season for Denver?
Paul Millsap brings veteran leadership, but has never been too outspoken on or off the court. If Denver is going to make a playoff push, someone will have to take over in the locker room.
Wilson Chandler could step into that role, but his play will need to do the talking for him again this year.
The Nuggets scored with the best of every NBA team last year. They averaged a little over 111 points per game, which is great, but weren’t so good on defense. Denver allowed over 111 points per game and ranked 27 out of 30 on defense.
If the Nuggets can’t improve defensively, expect Denver to miss the postseason against this year.
Denver Nuggets Betting Prediction: 45-37
Vegas has set the over/under at 43.5 for Denver this season. If the Nuggets can play like they did last season, with the addition of a veteran like Paul Millsap, the Nuggets can win 45 games or more.
The Nuggets can be one of the most underrated teams in the Western conference. The starting five doesn’t jump off the game program, but all starters are solid and can score.
Expect the Nuggets to stay in the thick of the playoffs this year.

If Denver can get it together on defense, the Nuggets could make the playoffs and be a first round spoiler. If not, they will get destroyed nightly by the loaded Western conference.
As for 2017-18, the Nuggets are still a star player away from becoming a serious playoff team. Denver will finish between sixth and tenth in the West this year.
