2017-2018 NBA Previews – Hornets Odds
Looking for 2017 Charlotte Hornets Predictions? We’ve got your back. The Charlotte Hornets have alternated a playoff berth and a missed playoff berth for the last four seasons.
This year’s squad looks like it may continue that trend as the Bobcats looked poised to make the playoffs this year.

As I mentioned above, this has been an up-and-down team the last four years. The pressure is on everyone in year five. This is Head Coach Steve Clifford’s fifth year and GM Rich Cho is in his final year.
If the Hornets don’t make the playoffs, look for a fire sale, and if they do make the playoffs, well, their jobs maybe safe, but we’ll have to wait and see on that front.
Charlotte Hornets Strengths:
The Charlotte Hornets made plenty of moves this past offseason to bolster their playoff chances and their chances at actually making a run in the playoffs.
The Hornets traded for Dwight Howard to bolster their paint presence while also adding Michael Carter-Williams in free agency, and Malik Monk in the draft.

Of course, the Hornets have their playmaker in Kemba Walker who will take this team as far as he can. Nicolas Batum is there as well carrying some of the load, as well.
Cody Zeller was having a great season until a season ending injury ended his season. If Zeller can pick up where he left off last year then the Hornets should be in good shape with another weapon on the court.
Also, there bench should be solid enough as well. Frank Kaminsky was a good bench player two years ago and he’ll be back to that familiar role this year.
You can throw in the likes of Marvin Williams and Jeremy Lamb contributing in some sort of capacity as well.

Overall, this should be a fun team to watch. There will be plenty of points to go around in this offense.
Charlotte Hornets Weaknesses:
The Charlotte Hornets have some nice pieces, some talented players that can do a lot of things, but their weakness is if they can stay healthy.
Last year’s bugaboo was their depth. Well, they’ve got some more depth on the team, and while they aren’t completely loaded from top to bottom, this is a roster that can hang once they get into their bench. They just have to stay healthy.

The injury bug has already been put to the test as Monk injured his ankle. Dwight Howard isn’t getting any younger; Michael Carter-Williams is basically never healthy.
Cody Zeller is coming off an injury plagued season last year, and we have to throw in the fact that Walker is coming off knee surgery.
Granted, it was a minor procedure, but it’s still worth noting.
Injuries could derail a potentially good season.
Charlotte Hornets Betting Prediction:
The over/under is set to 47.5 which is a pretty high number. Year in and year out in the Eastern Conference, typically, four teams will go over 47.5 wins.
If we go back to the 2010-11 season the number of teams to go over that number in the Eastern Conference have been: Four teams, one, four, four, four, six, and last year four teams. You average all that out and what do you get? 3.85.
So, basically, you have to ask yourself is Charlotte one of the four best teams in the Eastern Conference? For me, I’d say no.
I’m taking the under in this spot. However, this is a playoff team that has the potential to be a four seed if everything falls in their lap, but is more than likely going to fall in that five to seven range.

We know that the Cavs and Celtics will battle for the one seed; with the three to five seeds will be between the Raptors, Wizards, and Bucks. And then the Hornets are in that next tier battling with the likes of the Heat, 76ers, and Pistons as your potential playoff fillers.
This is a somewhat talented unit in a weak Eastern Conference (something that is a bit redundant to say at this point). So, I’d take the under 47.5 wins, but take them to make the playoffs and then, of course, lose in the first round.
