The NBA Three-Point Contest will feature 8 of the best shooters from behind the arc.
One notable omission is Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Stephen Curry, but his teammate Klay Thompson is the odds-on favorite to win the competition.

Below will describe the top 5 participants and why they have the chance to win this year’s Three-Point Contest.
Klay Thompson 2017 NBA 3 Point Contest Odds +110
Klay Thompson is the favorite in this competition for a reason. Let’s start with the numbers.
On the season, Thompson is shooting 42.2 percent from the three-point line. That number is made more impressive when you realize he’s attempting eight shots per game from behind the arc.
But while the numbers are enough to believe this competitor has a legitimate edge, you have to take style of play into account.
Thompson is known for his catch-and-shoot abilities. He can certainly create his own shot off the dribble, but his job in Golden State is to knock down deep shots off of curls and in quick fashion.
Is there a style of play more built for a three-point shootout? We doubt it.
Kyrie Irving 2017 NBA 3 Point Contest Odds +400
Kyrie Irving was born to score. He’s made a name for himself with his crossover, ability to finish at the rim and, of course, his long-range shooting.
But this kid (yes, he’s still just 24 years old), is a natural born scorer.
On the season, Irving is shooting 38.9 percent from deep. That number is above his career average of 38 percent.

The other reason to have faith in Irving is that he’s shown he has ice in his veins under pressure.
Kyrie makes sense as a runner-up favorite.
CJ McCollum 2017 NBA 3 Point Contest Odds +800
CJ McCollum, despite his Most Improved Player of the Year in campaign in 2015-16, has not earned the mainstream coverage he deserves.
Part of that is because he’s tucked away in the Pacific Northwest, but most of it has to do with the fact that the Portland Trail Blazers haven’t figured out which direction their rebuild is going.
As far as shooting is concerned, McCollum is nearing a class of his own. In fact, Bleacher Report used advanced metrics to determine the league’s best shooters, and CJ topped the list.
On the year, McCollum is scoring a career-best 23.4 points per game while shooting a near-career-best 41.1 percent from deep.
McCollum is a good dark horse pick because his isolation style doesn’t necessarily translate to this type of competition, but his consistent stroke makes for a beautiful shot that often find the bottom of the net.
Kyle Lowry 2017 NBA 3 Point Contest Odds +900
Kyle Lowry isn’t often recognized as a three-point specialist, but that’s more of a testament to his playmaking abilities than an indictment against his shooting.
Lowry is excellent at figuring out when to shoot, when to attack and when to set up his teammates. But he’s also a money shooter at this point in his career.
On the season, Lowry is averaging a career-high 22.8 points per game while shooting a career-best 41.7 points per game.
Lowry is shooting 7.9 three-pointers per game and deserves recognition as a top contender in this contest.
Eric Gordon 2017 NBA 3 Point Contest Odds +900
Eric Gordon is finally comfortable in an offense. He’s finally comfortable with an organization.
And he’s finally recognized on a national level as meeting his own potential.
This season, Gordon has established himself as a legitimate Sixth Man of the Year largely because of his three-point shot.

It’s true that Gordon’s success has come as a direct result of playing with a playmaker in James Harden who requires the utmost defensive attention, but the numbers don’t lie.
Gordon is shooting 38.5 percent from the three-point line this season on a career-high 9.2 attempts per night.
