Jimmie Johnson had already locked up a spot with a win at Martinsville and Carl Edwards added his name to that short list with this past Sunday’s victory at Texas.
Joey Logano finished second in that rain-shortened event and Martin Truex Jr. took third.

The following is a look at my top favorite, contender and longshot to win this Sunday’s race at Phoenix based on betting odds provided by MyBookie.
Can-Am 500 Odds: The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)
Kevin Harvick has had his back against the wall this entire Chase in an effort to win his second Sprint Cup title in three years.
He advanced to the Round of 12 with a win at New Hampshire and he staved off elimination to advance to this round with a victory at Kansas.
He comes into this race in basically a ‘must win’ situation after two less than stellar runs at Martinsville and Texas, but the value in his +600 odds to win again at Phoenix has never been higher.
Not only has the No. 4 Chevrolet racing team already proven to be resilient in this season’s Chase, it has proven to be almost unstoppable at this track.
Including a victory here in the first race this season, Harvick has made his way to the Winner’s Circle at Phoenix six times in his last eight Sprint Cup events.
Can-Am 500 Odds: The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)
Matt Kenseth is another veteran Sprint Cup driver that tends to rise to the occasion when the heat gets dialed up.
He is currently in fifth place in the standings and the only way to ensure a spot in next week’s championship race at Homestead-Miami is with a victory this Sunday at Phoenix.
The No. 20 Toyota has come close to getting its first Chase win this season on a few occasions including a second-place finish at both New Hampshire and Charlotte.

Working against his +1200 betting odds to win this Sunday is a very pedestrian 16.3 average finishing position at this track, but like I said, Kenseth is one of those drivers that know how to win when he has to.
Can-Am 500 Odds: The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)
One of the forgotten Chase drivers in the Round of 8 has been Kurt Busch, especially when it comes to his betting odds each week.
I have been riding the No. 41 Chevrolet has my top-valued longshot given the fact that it is still in contention to win a Sprint Cup title. Following two finishes of 20th or higher in his last two races, Busch comes into this race at +6000 odds to win.
While he has not actually won a race at Phoenix in quite some time, he has finished seventh or lower in his last four runs around this track.
