It has been a hot start for my 2016 NASCAR picks after last week’s favorite Jimmie Johnson at +700 betting odds edged-out his teammate and my top-valued contender Dale Earnhardt Jr. at +1800 odds for first place in Sunday’s race at Atlanta.
For the second week in a row, defending Sprint Cup Champion Kyle Busch ended-up third.

The following is a look at my top favorite, contender and longshot to win this Sunday’s race based on betting odds provided by MyBookie.
NASCAR Kobalt 400 Odds: The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)
Johnson was my pick as a third-favorite for last week’s race, but I am going chalk in this Sunday’s event with Kevin Harvick as my top-value pick in this category at +500 betting odds.
The No. 4 car lit up the track last season with three checkered flags and 13 additional second-place runs and after watching this team lead at Atlanta for 131 laps before fading to sixth, I think he is due.

I also really like the fact that Harvick won this event last season in the first of two back-to-back victories in this three-race West Coast swing.
NASCAR Kobalt 400 Odds: The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)
Martin Truex Jr. might always be remembered this season as the driver that lost the closest finish ever in a Daytona 500, but I am betting on his +1200 odds that he also adds a victory at Las Vegas to his 2016 resume.
The No. 78 car has been rock solid through the first two events with Truex Jr. behind the wheel. Last week he led at Atlanta for 34 laps before settling for seventh.
He may not be a regular at Victory Lane, but the fact that he raced well enough to get into the Championship Round of last year’s Chase also scores points in my book.
Truex Jr. adds even more value to this event after finishing second to Harvick at Las Vegas in 2015.
NASCAR Kobalt 400 Odds: The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)
This is going to seem like a real reach in the longshot category for this race, but I am going with rookie Chase Elliott at +2500 odds to win.
Taking over for Jeff Gordon in the No. 24 car, he first caught everyone’s attention by taking the Pole for the Daytona 500.
He ended-up a disappointing 37th in that race, but I was impressed with his eighth-place run in last week’s race after starting 24th.
While we do have much to go on with Elliott from one track to the next, I do think he is primed to make an impact in a few of these events starting this week at Las Vegas.
