United States
Marcus Stroman pitched well enough to have his team in a position to beat the Dominican Republic in his first start of the tournament. He allowed just three hits, and nothing else, in 4.2 innings, striking out four.
The US didn’t hold onto its big early lead in that one, which turned out to be America’s only loss to this point. It has since taken care of Canada back in Pool C and then Venezuela to open Pool F.

Venezuela dropped its second game to the DR, which has it right on the brink of elimination. That means the next two games are really the two that will determine if it will beat out either the Dominican Republic of Puerto Rico.
The United States didn’t get out of that Venezuela game easily, either. It took an eighth inning rally against Venezuela’s recent roster addition Hector Rondon. More specifically, it was Eric Hosmer’s two-run homer that did lifted the US.
Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico, meanwhile, came away with a much more meaningful first win of Pool F against the Dominican Republic. That means PR still has a date with Venezuela – 15 hours after this one starts.

It will be Mets’ young starting pitcher Seth Lugo who takes the ball for his second start of the tournament. He threw 5.1 one-hit innings against Venezuela in PR’s very first game. This guy is no slouch to face the US.
Yadi Molina was the latest Puerto Rican batter to lift the offense two days ago in its first game of Pool F. Yadi singled home a run in the first against Carlos Martinez and then got the bullpen for a solo home run in the sixth.
With the possible exception of Japan, no team’s lineup is going better than Puerto Rico’s right now.
Free United States vs. Puerto Rico WBC Prediction: it’s anybody’s game.
I like the way Puerto Rico is playing to the US’ showing so far, but I’ll give a slight pitching edge to the Americans. Neither side should be -200 in this one though.
4* Free WBC Betting Pick: Puerto Rico +150
Again, PR continues to be an undervalued side, even at 4-0. I’ll take a stab at that price.
