Texas Rangers
The Rangers got 21 outs from Andrew Cashner and homers from Jonathan Lucroy and Roughned Odor in a 5-2 win.
Cashner allowed eight baserunners and just one run in his seven innings of work. Lucroy drove in Texas’ first three runs with an RBI single in the third and a two-run shot his next time up, in the fifth.

Martin Perez’s first 10 outings of the season yielded some good results but his last two have erased some of that early success. He’s thrown 8.2 innings in those last two outings against the Rays and Astros, combined, and has given up 16 hits, including four homers, and 10 earned runs.
I didn’t know Perez just turned 26 years old. He’s been a relevant starting pitcher for enough years now to qualify as a veteran in my mind. Though he’s never face the Nationals in his career. Most of the Nats’ players with ABs against him come from the American League – Matt Wieters, Adam Eaton, Ryan Raburn. Of course, Eaton won’t be in the lineup this afternoon.
Washington Nationals
Washington managed to bring the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning tonight when Stephen Drew drove home the second run of the game and put runners on the corners.
Matt Bush converted the save, however, and the Nationals turn to game two to even the series.

Gio Gonzalez walks just about exactly 4.5 batters per nine innings. His 37 walks in 74 innings rank as the highest total in the National League.
His ERA is still just a shade over 3.00 but it’s been steadily climbing just about all season, from 1.33 in mid-April to 2.64 in early May to 3.03 where it is now.
Still, he’s averaging over six innings a start and has only allowed more than two runs three times in a dozen outings.

Free Texas Rangers vs. Washington Nationals MLB Prediction: the under cashes again.
I have this number at 9.0. Gonzalez’s walks are a glaring flaw but you can’t argue with his results this year, or in his career. Perez has quality starts in him and neither lineup is at full strength. The number feels high.
