Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers might not have closed out the sweep on Sunday night but the way they pushed Atlanta in a 6-5 loss might make it very difficult for them to win a second game in a row.

They showed a lot of fortitude in coming back from a 5-0 deficit to tie and were just one hit away from tying or winning the game late.

Walker Buehler looked mortal in the loss though and if they have any chance of really winning big during these playoffs they need him better than that.

Rich Hill actually led the Dodgers in wins this season with 11. He hasn’t pitches in October so he is well rested and he finished the regular season strong with 1ER allowed in his last 14 innings with 14 strikeouts.

His lone start this season against the Braves might have been his best of the season with 7 shutout innings and just three hits allowed. He still can bring the heat and his curveball can baffle ever savvy veteran hurler.

Best of all he is fresh and they can pitch him as much as they want or need.

Atlanta Braves

The Braves live to fight another day in beating the Dodgers 6-5. It was a game that was more intense than expected after Atlanta was up 5-0.

The legend of Ronald Acuna Jr continues to grow as the phenom launched a grand slam to stake them to a big lead, but it Freddie Freeman that hit the game winning homer in the 6th. Rich Hill can be very tough on lefties so both will need to hit well if the Braves are going to extend the series.

Unfortunately there is nobody on the Braves who has had much success against Hill in the past. The best is Johan Camargo who is 3 for 6.

After a strong regular season Mike Foltynewicz was off in the series opener.

He has never pitched this many innings in the Majors so perhaps he was gassed but he only got through 2 last time out and with everything on the line Atlanta may have no choice but to have a quick hook again, if need be.

With the season on the line everyone will be in play in the bullpen but a lot of those high leverage guys pitched on Sunday and threw more than their normal amount of pitches.
