Through the first 3 games, this World Series has been quite fun.
Cleveland grabbed a 2-1 series lead by stealing Game 3 1-0 on Friday. The teams march right back at it on Saturday night as the Cubs look to get back in the win column and even things up at home.
Cleveland Indians
The Cleveland Indians pitching staff is something else.
The Tribe posted their 5th shutout of this postseason, as Josh Tomlin set the tone in what was an extremely tough environment on Friday.
With the wind blowing out at 20 mph and Tomlin being a fly ball, people were expecting the Cubs to light him up. Tomlin went 4.2 shutout innings, while Andrew Miller, Bryan Shaw, and Cody Allen slammed the door in the 1-0 Indians victory.
Things got dicey in the 9th as Allen had the winning runs on 2nd and 3rd, but got Javy Baez to swing through a fast ball to end the game.
Cleveland will send out their ace in Corey Kluber, who will be pitching on short rest for the 2nd time this postseason.
Kluber went 5.0 innings in Game 4 against Toronto on the 3 days of rest, but took the loss as he allowed a pair of runs.
The Indians RH was stellar in Game 1 of this series, throwing just 88 pitches in the process.
Chicago Cubs
The Chicago Cubs are far from worried as they look to even things back up here on Saturday.
Chicago erased a 2-1 deficit in the NLCS, as they won 3 straight against the Dodgers to secure their spot in the World Series.
They had plenty of chances in Game 3, but just couldn’t capitalize.
They’ll have that advantage of already having seen Kluber once this postseason as they did put some good swings on him, but chasing pitches is something they have to improve on here.
The Cubs will send out RH John Lackey, who has that postseason experience they need.
Lackey lasted just 4.0 innings in his last start here in the playoffs, as he is on a shorter leash than the other Cubs starters.
Keeping the ball down is his biggest key here as this Indians offense just isn’t producing as of late.
