The Cardinals took out some frustrations against the Brewers on Thursday and look to continue that momentum here on Friday as they open a series against the Reds.
The Cards torched the Brewers for 7 runs while the Reds took it to the chin against the Cubs.
Cincinnati Reds
The Reds got a dosage of reality when they went into Wrigley Field. Cincinnati started the season at 5-1 and they started to raise just a few eyebrows. However, a trip to Wrigley these days, is never easy.
The Reds took a no hitter into the 7th inning of the Cubs Home Opener, only to lost that and blow a 3 run lead which set the tone for the series. Cincinnati was swept away, with an 8-1 route being the storyline on Thursday.

The Reds will try to change their losing ways as they send Tim Melville to the mound. He pitched just 4.0 innings against the Pirates, allowing 5 hits and just 1 run. He did manage to strike out 5, but walked 4 which was a major disappointment for him. Cutting down on walks is something that Melville must do, especially considering his stuff isn’t going to overpower anyone.
St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals have caught fire and it comes at the right time. St. Louis has won 4 of their last 5, which includes a sweep over the Braves and 2 of 3 being taken in Milwaukee. The Cardinals offense is clicking, as they have averaged 6.50 runs per game thus far.
The Starting pitching is really starting to click too. Jamie Garcia was magnificent on get away day, going a complete game allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk with 13 strikeouts. This is the backbone to this team as they have a deep rotation that can cause the opposition a lot of fits.

Looking to follow suit, the Cards will send Carlos Martinez to the mount. Martinez went 6.0 innings against the Braves, allowing just 4 hits and 2 runs while striking out 5. He doesn’t have overpowering stuff, which really puts the pressure on him to command his stuff and keep the ball down.
