Cubs 2019 Season Preview
Ready to check out our 2019 Chicago Cubs predictions? After winning the World Series a few years back the Chicago Cubs took a few steps back and were passed up by the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central. That doesn’t mean the expectations are any different this year though.
MLB Cubs Predictions & Handicapping Insight
The hope is this offseason everyone got healthy and will be ready to play, and that will lead to a better year this year.
They are currently the favorites to win the National League Central and have the top odds in National League to win the World Series.
2019 MLB Team Previews – Chicago Cubs
- Cubs National League Central Odds 7/4
- Cubs National League Odds 11/2
- Cubs World Series Odds 8/1
Key Additions:
- Kendall Graveman
- Brad Brach
- Xavier Cedeno
The Cubs didn’t make any splash signings this offseason but they did make a couple of additions to give the pitching staff more depth.

Kendall Graveman is trying to work back from injury but once he is healthy he should be a guy that can be counted on to throw some key innings.
Key Losses:
- Jorge de la Rosa
As much as the Cubs didn’t sign anyone in free agency they also didn’t really lose a ton. Jorge de la Rosa was not signed to another contract but he is still a free agent and he is older.
The pitchers they did this offseason should also help make up for the loss.
2019 Chicago Cubs Predictions: Projected Lineup:
- CF Jason Heyward (L)
- 3B Kris Bryant (R)
- 1B Anthony Rizzo (L)
- SS Javier Baez (R)
- LF Kyle Schwarber (L)
- C Willson Contreras (R)
- 2B Daniel Descalso (L)
- RF Albert Almora Jr. (R)
The Cubs are going to be a team that is going to be putting up a ton of runs this season, especially when the wind is blowing out of Wrigley.
The top of the lineup is set but if the team really wants to take a step toward the world series, players like Daniel Descalso and Albert Almora Jr are going to need to have big years.
2019 Chicago Cubs Predictions: Projected Rotation:
- LHP Jon Lester
- RHP Kyle Hendricks
- RHP Yu Darvish
- LHP Jose Quintana
- LHP Cole Hamels
Jon Lester is getting up in age and so is Cole Hamels and there are some other question marks so this could be a very good pitching staff, or they could really struggle.
The thing that will probably make or break it is how well Yu Darvish pitches. If he can stay healthy and pitch like he did in Texas, they should have a good chance for a lot of success.
2019 Chicago Cubs Predictions: Projected Closer:
- Brandom Morrow
Brandon Morrow had 22 saves last year with the Cubs and the expectation is that he will have the same roll this season.
There is a chance that the Cubs could decide to try a couple of guys out in the role, but for now it appears that it’s Morrow’s job to lose.

2019 Chicago Cubs Predictions:
I know the pitching staff could go either way but I think Darvish is going to have a big year, and that will lead to him being the ace.
