Red Sox 2019 Season Preview
Ready to check out our 2019 Red Sox predictions? The Boston Red Sox had quite the season last year and that ended with the team raising the World Series trophy again. Expectations are high again for this club this year and many believe they will be able to repeat last years success.
MLB Red Sox Predictions & Handicapping Insight
The Red Sox currently have the second-best odds to win the American League pennant and also the second-best odds to win the American League East, only behind the New York Yankees.
2019 MLB Team Previews – Red SOx
- Red Sox American League East Odds 7/5
- Red Sox American League Odds 3/1
- Red Sox World Series Odds 7/1
Key Additions:
- Colton Brewer
To say the Red Sox were quiet this offseason in trading and signing guys would be quite the understatement. They did sign a lot of their own guys to contract extensions but not a ton of them in terms from the outside.

They did trade for Colton Brewer from the Padres and he should be a guy that can help sure up a bullpen that could be shaky.
Key Losses:
- Joe Kelly
- Craig Kimbrel
Joe Kelly and Craig Kimbrel were both huge parts of the team last year but they both won’t be back on the Red Sox and that is going to open up a ton of questions.
Something that was a strength last year, could very well be a thing this team struggles with.
2019 Red Sox Predictions: Projected Lineup:
- LF Andrew Benintendi (L)
- RF Mookie Betts (R)
- DH J.D. Martinez (R)
- SS Xander Bogaerts (R)
- 1B Mitch Moreland (L)
- 2B Dustin Pedroia (R)
- 3B Rafael Devers (L)
- CF Jackie Bradley Jr. (L)
- C Christian Vazquez (R)
From top to bottom this is an elite lineup, and they are going to be putting up a lot of crooked numbers against most teams this year.
If the back end of the lineup can put up big numbers, this is my pick to win the World Series.
2019 Red Sox Predictions: Projected Rotation:
- LHP Chris Sale
- LHP David Price
- RHP Rick Porcello
- RHP Nathan Eovaldi
- LHP Eduardo Rodriguez
Chris Sale is locked up long term and David Price looked like an All-Star again last season. Eduardo Rodriguez has been inconsistent in his career but last year he went 13-5 in 27 starts.
He can pitch more like he did last year and less like he did in the 2017 year this will be one of the top rotations in baseball.
2019 Boston Red Sox Predictions: Projected Closer:
- Matt Barnes
With Craig Kimbrel gone, it could be a committee that starts the season as the closer until they can decide on what guy to run with long term.

To start Matt Barnes is expected to be one of those guys and although he has had success pitching, this is a guy that only has two saves in his career.
Last year Barnes had 64 appearances and an ERA of 3.65.
2019 Boston Red Sox Predictions:
The Red Sox are going to have another big year, and I really think they will make the playoffs and they are my pick to win the AL East.

The big question for the Red Sox is how will the bullpen perform. If the back end of the Bullpen is strong this is a world series team but that is something I think could cost them.
Once the playoffs roll around I think the bullpen will cost them a few games, and also a chance at the World Series.
