NL West Predictions & Handicapping Insight
The NL West had three teams make the playoffs last year and they hope that they can send that many this year. The Dodgers won the division last year while the Diamondbacks and the Rockies played in the NL Wild card game.
The Diamondbacks ended up winning the game to move on in the playoffs. This year those three teams should be the ones competing for the top of the divison again.
Arizona Diamondbacks NL West Predictions
Diamondbacks NL West Division Odds: +600
Diamondbacks Win Total Odds: 85.5
The expecations weren’t that high coming into last season for the Diamondbacks and they exceded all expecations. This season though the expecations are high and many believe they have a chance to take that next step forward and win the divison.

Their success is going to start with the pitching staff, especially Zack Greinke. If he can be the ace like he was last year it should be a fun summer in the desert.
One question they need to figure out is who their closer is. They need someone in the back end of the bullpen who they can trust.
Colorado Rockies NL West Predictions
Rockies NL West Division Odds: +800
Rockies Win Total Odds: 82
Colorado is a tough ballpark to pitch at, but that is going to be the key for this team this year if they want to take that next step forward.
They brought in Wade Davis and Bryan Shaw to bolster the back end of the bullpen and that is going to be a key to this season.
There were a lot of games last year that were blown late, and they hope the addition of those two guys will help this team.

As hard as it is to pitch in Colorado that is an advantage for the offense, and that should be strong again this year. Last year they were 2nd in the MLB in batting average and led by a strong middle of the lineup those are the expecations again this year.
Los Angeles Dodgers NL West Predictions
Dodgers NL West Division Odds: -260
Dodgers Win Total Odds: 96.5
The Los Angeles Dodgers have won the NL West the last five years, but each they have fallen short of their biggest goal, winning the World Series.
This team has one of the best lineups and one of the best pitching staffs in the league and it really isn’t a question about if this team will make the playoffs, they will.
The biggest question is can this be the year they win the World Series? With as strong as the American League should be this year I think the Dodgers will make the World Series, but they will fall just short.
The pitching staff will struggle in the World Series and that will be the downfall.
San Diego Padres NL West Predictions
Padres NL West Division Odds: +4000
Padres Win Total Odds: 69.5
The future in San Diego is bright for the Padres, but it’s not quite here yet and they are still at least probably a year away from really competiting.
The big off-season signing for the Padres was Eric Hosmer who they signed away from the Kansas City Royals on an eight year deal.
The Padres minor league system is one of the best in baseball, but they aren’t quite ready to come up to the major leagues yet.
For the pitching staff there isn’t a ton of players to get excited about besides their closer, Brad Hand who is one of the best in baseball.
The most exciting time for this team this year might be in September when some of the September call ups can up and give the fans a glimpse of the future.
San Francisco Giants NL West Predictions
Giants NL West Division Odds: +550
Giants Win Total Odds: 81.5
The San Francisco Giants are coming into this season off a really disapointing season last year, but they look like they should be better this year.
They are going to have to go without Madison Bumgarner for at least the first month and a half of the season after breaking his pinkie during a spring training game.

The Giants need to get out to a fast start and without their ace it’s going to be tough. They are going to need to having the rest of the pitching staff to step up if they want a chance to make the playoffs and compete in the NL West.
