MLB BASEBALL FUTURES ODDS – 2017 NL WEST PREDICTIONS
Looking for 2017 NL West Predictions? We’ve got your back! Spring Training is finally here – all of the talking and reshaping of lineups will start to come to light as we inch closer to opening day. The NL West has been a two-horse race for years, and it’s shaping up to be something similar to that again this season.
MLB NL West Predictions & Handicapping Insight
The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants have been the class of the division for several years, and given the way the division is trending, it’s looking like it will be a while before the division gets out of their grasp.
But the Arizona Diamondbacks are trending up, as are the Colorado Rockies, and while the San Diego Padres present no real threat for the time being, this isn’t a division that’s going to be a pushover for long.
2017 NL West Predictions: Arizona Diamondbacks
Diamondbacks NL West Division Odds: +2000
Diamondbacks Win Total Odds: 78.5
Last season was supposed to be the year that the Diamondbacks wedged their way into the conversation for best team in the N.L. West, but those dreams were shattered with a preseason injury to A.J. Pollock, who was expected to turn in an MVP-calibre season at the top of the lineup.

Zack Greinke was supposed to be the ace the team had been searching for for many years, but he dealt with injuries and ineffectiveness in a lost year.
But now Pollock and Greinke are healthy, and the team parlayed Jean Segura’s bounce back campaign into a good young arm in Taijuan Walker.
The Diamondbacks look to still be a few pieces away from being ready to compete with the likes of the Dodgers and Giants, but they’re good enough to steal a few wins away from each.
2017 NL West Predictions: Los Angeles Dodgers
Dodgers NL West Division Odds: -240
Dodgers Win Total Odds: 94
The Dodgers weren’t able to close the deal on a Brian Dozier trade, and there isn’t much in the way of roster changes, but that’s not a bad thing for the defending N.L. West champions.

Logan Forsythe is a good add at the top of the lineup, and the pitching rotation is so deep that it’s going to be tough to exclude guys from the rotation out of the spring.
They’re the clear favorite to win the division again, and laying a bit of a steep price with them remains the smart play.
2017 NL West Predictions: San Francisco Giants
Giants NL West Division Odds: +280
Giants Win Total Odds: 87.5
If the Giants had settled their ninth inning situation last season, we could be talking about how they extended their even-numbered year World Series streak, but that wasn’t the case as they failed to collect the final three outs in Game 4 of the NLDS.
Credit to the team’s front office for going out and turning that weakness into a strength with the signing of Mark Melancon.
Madison Bumgarner and Johnny Cueto are the best 1-2 pitching punch in baseball, and lead what may be the best starting rotation in the bigs, but the team’s lineup is one or two injuries away from really holding this team back.
The Giants seem like a strong candidate for the first Wild Card spot in the NL, but winning the division is going to be tough given the inevitable rough patch they’re going to hit when injuries occur.
2017 NL West Predictions: San Diego Padres
Padres NL West Division Odds: +10000
Padres Win Total Odds: 66.5
Last season the Padres finished in a tie with the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds for the worst record in the National League, and this season they are in position to hold that title all to themselves.

There are some interesting pieces in the middle of the lineup, and if all falls right, they’ll give fans in San Diego reason to come out to the ballpark with a potentially potent lineup, with speedsters at the top and mashers in the middle.
But there’s so little depth on the roster, and the starting rotation could be a mess, even by Petco standards.
There’s clearly a plan in place, and they’re headed in the right direction, but the Padres are years away from being in the N.L. West title conversation.
2017 NL West Predictions: Colorado Rockies
Rockies NL West Division Odds: +1000
Rockies Win Total Odds: 80.5
The Rockies are on the rise. Not because of the Ian Desmond signing, but because they’re currently rostering the best 1-through-5 pitching rotation they have had in franchise history.
