After losing in the first round of the playoffs last season and making moves this off-season, look for the Yankees to be a threat again this year.

Key Additions
- Aroldis Chapman-RP
- Starlin Castro- 2B
- Aaron Hicks- OF
The Yankees added another fast baller to the back-end of the bullpen with Chapman. Chapman is coming off another big year where he put up 33 saves for the Reds last season.
Also, the Starlin Castro acquisition will be a factor in the infield for the Yankees. Castro hit .265 for the Cubs last season.
Key Losses:
- Chris Young- OF
- John Ryan Murphy: C
- Adam Warren: P
Don’t look for the Yankees to sweat any of these losses this upcoming season. They lost their 4th outfielder in Chris Young, which incoming Aaron Hicks will take over.

John Ryan Murphy was the backup catcher to Brian McCann last season, and Adam Warren saw rare time for the Yankees. These guys seem to all be very replaceable this upcoming year.
2016 New York Yankees Predictions – Projected Lineup:
1. Jacoby Ellsbury CF
2. Starlin Castro 2B
3. Alex Rodriguez DH
4. Mark Teixeira 1B
5. Brian McCann C
6. Carlos Beltran RF
7. Brett Gardner LF
8. Chase Headley 3B
9. Didi Gregorius SS
The Yankees middle of the lineup was their soul of the lineup last season. Alex Rodrigues and Mark Teixeira had their best season in recent history. Rodriguez hit 33 home runs and Teixeira had another 31 bombs.
Don’t expect their production to stay that high this upcoming season, but barring injury, expect them to be in the middle of the lineup once again
The Yankees have 3 guys that could fill the top two spots of the lineup. Jacoby Ellsbury, Brett Gardner, and Starlin Castro all could fill the top two spots in the lineup this upcoming season.

All these guys are the same player that will hit in the .250-.270 range with a solid on-base percentage. Right now I think that Ellsbury and Castro will start off in the top two positions.
Elsewhere in the lineup, don’t look for Beltran, McCann, or Headley to have any breakout seasons. Look for them to be good enough for this lineup, but don’t look for any record-breaking season.
Also, look for Stephen Drew and Aaron Hicks looking for playing time and eventually sneak into this mediocre offense.
2016 New York Yankees Predictions – Projected Rotation
1. Masahiro Tanaka
2. Michael Pineda
3. Nathan Eovaldi
4. Luis Severino
5. C.C. Sabathia
This Yankees rotation will need to perform a lot better this season in order for them to be successful. Tanaka has been fighting injuries his whole short MLB career thus far, but when available he has been able to perform well.
Michael Pineda and Nathan Eovaldi are who needs to perform at a high level for this rotation to be worthwhile. These guys combined for a 26-13 record last season and will look to improve on this year.
C.C Sabathia first needs to control what is going on off the field in New York, then worry about his lackluster recent history on the bump.
The 35-year-old Sabathia has been on a very steep downhill in production as of the last couple years.
The most exciting part of this lineup, in my opinion, is Luis Severino. Severino came into the lineup late in the season and performed well. He posted a very impressive 8.1 k/9 ratio in the 11 starts that he had.
2016 New York Yankees Predictions – Projected Bullpen:
1. Aroldis Chapman
2. Andrew Miller
3. Dellin Betances
This bullpen with the acquisition of Aroldis Chapman is the strongest part of the team, and arguably the best bullpen in baseball. The three of these pitchers were in the top 4 in strikeouts last season.
Look for a lot of situational pitching late in games with the left-handed Miller, the right-handed Betances, and the 100+ MPH fast ball from Chapman.
2016 New York Yankees Predictions:
The Yankees are going to run for another playoff appearance this season but they will need to be relying on the back-end of their bullpen in most instances.
They need Tanaka to have an all-star year, along with a guy like Severino to have a breakout season.
[dfads params=’groups=213&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
With a mediocre lineup and starting pitching rotation, the Yankees will need to get hot late in the season with their veterans in order to make a playoff push.
I don’t see A-Rod or Teixeira to have a season such as last year and I think that Tanaka and the pitching staff will underperform.
This team cannot expect on their bullpen to win games when they won’t have the lead in the 7th inning.
Best case scenario for the Yankees is 2nd place in the East behind the Blue Jays and maybe creeping in the playoffs. I predict them being 3rd in the East behind the Blue Jay’s and Orioles.
