The AL West just got a whole lot more interesting with the recent surge of the Houston Astros.
It’s now a division where every team can compete and every team got better this past off season, making things very interesting heading into this season.
With the Wild Card a definite possibility coming from this division, lets break down each team.
Houston Astros AL West Predictions
Astros AL West Division Odds: +125
Astros Win Total Odds: 85.5
The Astros are poised for another big run here in 2016.
Houston represented the Wild Card in last year’s playoffs and did not disappoint. They took down New York, in the Bronx, and set up a series with the eventual World Series champions.

The Astros held a 7-2 lead in the 7th inning as they led the series 2-1 and it looked like they would be moving on to take on the Blue Jays in the ALCS. Houston eventually blew the lead and their season came to an end in Game 5.
This young team will be licking their chops to get back there and has the lineup, led by Altuve, and the pitching staff, led by Dallas Keuchel, to do just that.
Los Angeles Angels AL West Predictions
Angels AL West Division Odds: +400
Angels Win Total Odds: 82.5
Los Angeles is such a confusing team to figure out.
They should be atop the division every season. With players like Mike Trout and Albert Pujols leading the way, this offense is extremely dangerous. They come into this season with the left side of the infield also very solidified with the acquisitions of Yunel Escobar and Andrelton Simmon.

The question for this team has always been the run production. They go through way too many spurts where they are ice cold. Last season the Angels had just 661 runs totaled. While that number is expected to increase a bit, a team with Mike Trout in his prime should be scoring a lot more.
Seattle Mariners AL West Predictions
Mariners AL West Division Odds: +400
Mariners Win Total Odds: 83
The Mariners went out an hired new GM Jerry Dipoto and immediately the team became completely different.
Seattle acquired Wade Miley (Boston) and Nathan Karns (Tampa Bay) to boost their rotation. Out in the bullpen, Joaquin Benoit & Steve Cishek were added to give them more length and depth.
Keep your eye on Tony Zych this year. He’s poised for a breakout. (You’ll remember he’s a cheap pitcher. The M’s got him for one dollar, and the 25-year-old reliever has a fastball that can touch 99 mph.)
Offensively, the Mariners went out and signed Nori Aoki, Chris Iannetta, Steve Clevenger, Adam Lind, and Leonys Martin.
This team is completely different than last year and combine all this with Nelson Cruz, Robinson Cano, and Felix Hernandez and this team is poised for a run at the West.
Oakland Athletics AL West Predictions
Athletics AL West Division Odds: +1000
Athletics Win Total Odds: 75 1/2
The Athletics are certainly on the bottom of the totem poll in the West and for good reason.
Prior to last season, Oakland decided to go in a different direction and start shipping away their veterans. While the plan hasn’t panned out just yet, it’s only 1 year into the process.
They’ve been down this road before. Oakland has rebuilt and then there is always a year where they come out of nowhere. For that to be this year, the A’s will need Sonny Gray to get some help.
Look at their number 2, it’s Rich Hill. He’s been good, but he’s been a bullpen pitcher throughout his career.
Texas Rangers AL West Predictions
Rangers AL West Division Odds: +275
Rangers Win Total Odds: 86
The Rangers went for it last season at the deadline, trading away prospects for Cole Hamels. With him and Yu Darvish (who is returning from Tommy John) leading the way, the rotation has a lot of promise.

A lineup that features Adrian Beltre, Elvis Andrus, Prince Fielder, and Shin Soo Choo is always a very dangerous one, especially in a hitters ballpark.
This team has the pieces to compete, but getting the back end of their rotation some success will be a must.
