Bet On The 2017 Preakness Stakes
Ready to bet on the 2017 Preakness Stakes Betting Odds? The second jewel of this year’s Triple Crown – the 2017 Grade 1 Preakness Stakes comes our way this Saturday, May 20 from Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore Maryland.
2017 PREAKNESS STAKES
When: Saturday, May 20 at 7:35 p.m. EST
Where: Pimlico Race Course, Baltimore, Md.
On television: NBC
Live stream: NBC Sports Live and NBC Sports app
2017 Preakness Stakes Betting Odds: Bovada
A talented group of three year olds will take to Pimlico’s dirt track and race 1 3/16 miles for the winner’s share of the $1.5 million purse and the honor of being called the latest Preakness victor.
While a field of 20 lined up for the Kentucky Derby a couple weeks ago with favorite Always Dreaming supporting his backers with a nice win in the slop at Churchill Downs, a field of just 10 will give it a go this week (five that raced in the Derby) – nine of which will try to put an early end to Always Dreaming’s bid to become the latest Triple Crown winner.
The Preakness is race 13 on Pimlico’s stacked Saturday card with a post time of 6:48 PM.
Historically, it has been one of the Derby entrants that emerges victorious in this race which is shocking considering those contenders went a hard 1 1/4 miles just two weeks ago.
That said, it is on the rare side that the Kentucky Derby winner goes on to win the Preakness – the pressures of a Triple Crown run, the fact that the fields in the Preakness are slightly better than those of the Derby, and the realization that fresher horses will be contesting the crown all stack up against the Derby winner.
So who ya got in this year’s Preakness? Let’s take a peek.

2017 Preakness Stakes Betting Odds: The Breakdown
Always Dreaming (4-5), the Kentucky Derby winner is the obvious favorite here. He enters on a four race win streak – all of which have been by two lengths or more – dominant wins by a classy colt that has gotten better with each and every race. His main challenge here is Classic Empire (3-1) who fell victim to a bad start in the Derby, sustained an eye injury after being pelted with mud in the pack and still got up for fourth.
He has had a knack of producing special efforts to back up disappointing ones – the Derby could be considered one of those disappointing effort. These two are the class of the field and will definitely be in the mix Saturday.
So is there any value further down the board? You bet there is. Lookin At Lee, the runner-up in the Kentucky Derby looms at 10-1 odds. He has been in there with some competitive fields in the recent past and has fared well. He hasn’t posted victory however since August. Cloud Computing (12-1) is next. He has just three career starts and has placed in all including two graded stakes. He’s largely unproven and is a bit difficult to trust ahead of this weekend. Gunnevera and Conquest Mo Money are both listed at 15-1 odds. There is a good chance that one, if not both of these horses contend. Gunnevera finished seventh in the Derby but holds wins in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes and the $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot while Conquest Mo Money has three wins and two seconds in his five career starts, although he has yet to post a graded stakes win.
Now we get into the longer shots in the field. Hence (20-1) enters off an 11th in the Derby which followed an upset win in the G3 Sunland Derby. He was seventh in his race before that. Multiplier (30-1) has placed in all four career starts – two wins, a second and a third place finish. He arrives of a career- best effort – a win in the G3 Illinois Derby in his stakes debut.
The competition in that race however wasn’t close to that of the Preakness. Senior Investment (30-1) also enters off a career-best result – a win in the G3 Lexington Stakes but Grade 3 fields are nowhere close to that of the Grade 1 competition he will face this weekend.
Term Of Art (30-1) rounds out the field this week. He won the G3 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes at Del Mar November 27 but has hit the board in just one of four races since.
2017 Preakness Stakes Betting Odds: So who wins?
My free Preakness Stakes Betting Pick is Classic Empire at 3-1 odds. He showed some serious resolve in the Derby and his knack of rebounding off disappointing losses is certainly not lost on me. He’s a classy colt that is much better than we saw two weeks ago.
In second I have Conquest Mo Money at 15-1 – he is fresh and has been a serious factor in every race so far in his career.
In third I have the favorite Always Dreaming at 4-5 odds. He puts up a fight and makes it interesting but suffers his first loss since his debut here.
Good luck and enjoy the race!
