Classic Empire 2017 Kentucky Derby Odds
The Kentucky Derby favorite this year is Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and G1 Arkansas Derby winner Classic Empire who is listed at a tepid 4-1 odds. Up and coming Always Dreaming and McCraken are next at 5-1.

Always Dreaming and McCraken 2017 Kentucky Derby Odds
All have had impressive wins in the lead-up to the Derby – Classic Empire has missed quite a bit of training time ahead of this weekend, Always Dreaming is still somewhat green having raced in graded stakes company just once and McCraken enters off his worst effort in a while – a third in the G2 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland.
All are serious threats to take down the first prize – the odds reflect that notion.
Irish War Cry 2017 Kentucky Derby Odds
The next tier of contenders offers some good value indeed. Irish War Cry at 6-1 odds is certainly on many people’s radar including mine. He has won four of five career starts with his best coming last time out in the Wood Memorial.

Girvin 2017 Kentucky Derby Odds
“The Road to the Kentucky Derby” points winner Girvin is next at 15-1 odds – he had two wins and a second place finish in prep races with his last coming in the Grade 1 Louisiana Derby. At 15-1 he offers good value for sure.
Gunnevera 2017 Kentucky Derby Odds
Others at 15-1 are G2 Fountain of Youth Stakes and $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot winner Gunnevera who has been up against top fields in his last six starts and has fared very, very well.
Gormley and Hence 2017 Kentucky Derby Odds
G1 winner and third place finisher in the points race Gormley and G3 Sunland Derby winner Hence are also listed at 15-1. The best of the bunch are Girvin and Gunnevera who haven’t been afraid of top company and has more than held his own so far.
Tapwit, Irap, Thunder Snow, Practical Joke, J Boys Echo and Lookin at Lee 2017 Kentucky Derby Odds
Tapwit, Irap, Thunder Snow, Practical Joke, J Boys Echo and Lookin at Lee are all 20-1. All five have had their moments in the leadup to the Run for the Roses.
Tapwrit beat McCraken in the G2 Tampa Bay Derby which is mighty impressive but enters off a fifth in the G1 Blue Grass Stakes. Irap has just one career win in eight starts but that win came last time out in the G2 Blue Grass Stakes.
Thunder Snow has made some noise in Dubai but UAE Derby winners rarely do well in the Derby.
Practical Joke has been knocking on the door with consecutive runner up finishes G2 Blue Grass Stakes and the G2 Fountain of Youth Stakes and J Boys Echo won the G3 Withers Stakes two starts back with a terrific 104 Beyer Speed Figure.
He enters off a fourth in the G2 Blue Grass Stakes however. Tapwrit and Irap are the best of this bunch – each will be looking for a bounce back but each has shown brilliance in the past.
State of Honor, Battle of Midway, Patch and Untrapped 2017 Kentucky Derby Odds
State of Honor, Battle of Midway, Patch and Untrapped are 20-1 on the morning line. We are getting into the weeds here but there could be a super sleeper in the group. State of Honor may be that entry – he has been in there with some top quality fields and has come close to a career-defining win.
He had a third to McCraken and Tapwrit in the G3 Sam F. Davis Stakes, a second in the G1 Florida Derby last time out and another second in the G2 Tampa Bay Derby. Patch is not widely known but a runner-up finish last time out in the G2 Louisiana Derby opened a few eyed.
Fast and Accurate and Sonneteer 2017 Kentucky Derby Odds
Fast and Accurate and Sonneteer at both 50-1. Both are quality entries but each doesn’t seem to be the caliber of the top dogs.
So who wins? I am going with Irish War Cry at 6-1. He has looked terrific in training ahead of this weekend and holds wins already in his career over the likes of Classic Empire and Gunnevera.

I have to go with Todd Pletcher trained Always Dreaming at 5-1 odds to finish second – just wish he was in the 10-1 odds range. The favorite Classic Empire at 4-1 gets my show spot.
He’s already won on the big stage in the Breeders’ Cup and has been the one that most eyes have been on since this process started.
