This could be a quasi knockout game in the BIg Ten West. There are four teams, including both of these that have 1 conference loss. Another one and you will definitely be behind the eight ball with 4 games to go.

Wisconsin has a tough schedule from here on our with trips to Penn State and Purdue. Still they get the nod as the favourite here, perhaps as much on reputation as performance if we are being honest.
Wisconsin Badgers
In some ways it is just business as usual in Madison. They are fourth in the nation in rushing behind an offensive line that is probably better than some in the NFL. Two losses so far is unusual though.
The thing is the defense has really taken a step back this season. Usually in the top 20 they are 44th in yards allowed. 20ppg allowed is pretty good but they are letting teams move the ball and not able to play their “pitching and defense” style.

Wisconsin had been much more interesting this season because they have been vulnerable. It is possible they run the table and compete in the B10 title game but they could also lose 2-3 more times and play in the Holiday Bowl. Game to game they have become tough to read.
Northwestern Wildcats
The Wildcats have won three in a row but it is a little disconcerting how long it took for them to put away lowly Rutgers. The back half of their schedule has challenging games but this is one they can get at home.
While the Badgers look to move the ball on the ground Northwestern has a top 20 passing offense led by senior QB Clayton Thorson (the other Clayton this fall). With the Badgers much more leaky on defense than normal he should be able to move the ball

If both teams play their best this probably goes to the Badgers but if the Wildcats can force them to throw a little and maybe get an interception or special teams homer this one should be close throughout. That is always the strategy against the Badgers but this year it is working more.

Free Week 9 NCAA Football Pick
This line makes sense based on standard logic. The problem is this might not be a typical Wisconsin team. Buying opportunity somewhere?
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Badgers -7
If this gets to 7.5 I might change my thinking but I think the Badgers get up early and do just enough to hold on. Northwestern is a good team but Thorson makes too many mistakes.
Eventually that running game and all that beef just wears down the Northwestern front. Hopefully they pull away so we don’t really have to sweat it.
