The West Virginia Mountaineers look to secure a fifth-straight win over the Red Raiders in week 5 of the NCAA football season. West Virginia has averaged 40.5 points over the last four contests between the two teams.

The Red Raiders are coming off an impressive performance against Oklahoma State in week 4. As 14-point underdogs, Texas Tech handed the Cowboys their boots and went bucking away with a big road win, 41- 17.
West Virginia Mountaineers
Standout quarterback Will Grier had a major influence in the 46 – 35 win for the Mountaineers in last year’s game played in Morgantown, West Virginia. Grier threw for 5 TD passes against the Red Raider defense a year ago, and is hoping to repeat that performance on Saturday. Grier threw three of those touchdown passes to David Silva V a year ago, and the two connected for three more TD passes this past weekend against Kansas State.
West Virginia has cruised to a 3 – 0 record, taking easy double-digit+ wins over Tennessee, Youngstown State and Kansas State.

As much of an influence that Grier is to the offense, the Mountaineers defense has been outstanding as well. Ranked 2nd defensively in the nation in points allowed (12.3), the passing offense is ranked third in NCAA football, putting up 373.7 yards per game.
The line setters have certainly recognized the Mountaineers’ hot start to the campaign. The line opened at West Virginia -6, although it has deflated to -4 or -3.5 at a handful of major sportsbooks.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
First of all, what the hell was Oklahoma State doing favored by -14 over anyone to begin with? That was insulting enough, but we all knew that Texas Tech’s defense was going to be a strength all season. It’s no secret that Red Raider nation has a lot of new faces who were learning the offense this spring.
The Red Raider defense caused three fumbles and had one interception in Stillwater, aiding the way to that aforementioned 41- 17 victory. Getting off the field was a big key for the defense as well, as Oklahoma State only converted 3 of 13 on third down.
I think the line setters mixed up which offense would show up in Stillwater, because there is no more Mason Rudolph and James Washington over there anymore. Granted, the Red Raider offense is still learning as they go, but I think it’s safe to say they’ve figured something out.

How does 77 points, 63 points and 41 points sound through your last three games? Last I checked, averaging 60 points a contest might get you a win or two during the season. Say what you want about the three teams they’ve faced, because no one in Lubbock is whining about it. There’s no crying in Texas football!
The line sliding down to -3.5/4 has the public thinking that the spread was set a little high. Make no mistake that Texas Tech’s three opponents are not exactly known for their defensive prowess either. Lamar and Houston people! That deserves an LOL and a ‘how do you do’!

Free Week 5 NCAA Football Pick
As the offenses have both looked relatively successful for both teams this year, these two defenses are certainly not Lamar, Houston, and Youngstown State! That 77 on the total sure seems extreme for what could be a bit of a battle between two hungry SEC teams.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: The line is set at West Virginia -4, with a 77 attached to the total.
I might need to apologize for this later, but I am thinking that this will be a tight contest that comes down to the wire. I am predicting a final score of 34 – 31, pointing to the dog and the under in this contest. My specific play will be the on the total, as I offer the Under 77 as the pick.
