Cal got a boost to start their 2017 season as they went across the country to Chapel Hill as they defeated the Tar Heels. While Weber State put up a 70 burger on Montana-Western to start their year.
Weber State Wildcats
Weber State opened up the season with a bang. Weber State scored 76 points and shut out Montana-Western.
Stefan Cantwell threw for two touchdowns. On the ground, Kevin Smith ran in two touchdowns as well along with Treshawn Garrett. They look to be Weber State’s two playmakers so Cal might end up having their hands full.
All in all, Weber State ran for 303 yards on the ground and eight touchdowns. Yardage wise Weber State 466 yards to 147 yards.

If Cal’s not careful Weber State might give them a hard time. Cal is going off an emotional high across the country and now they get an FCS opponent. This is a potential trap game.
California Golden Bears
It’s a new era in Berkeley with Justin Wilcox leading the charge and it got off to a good start as Cal flew across the country and defeated the North Carolina Tar Heels 35-30.
Cal went into the fourth quarter down 24-21 and they went ahead 35-24 before North Carolina scored a last second touchdown to make the score look better.
Senior halfbacks Tre Watson and Vic Enware were unable to get things going on the ground, but Enware was able to punch in a score and Watson able to crack 52 yards and gain 4.7 yards a pop.

They were unable to run the ball, but their passing attack was good as sophomore Ross Bowers acquitted himself extremely well in his first collegiate start. Bowers went 24-for-38 for 368 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions.
Given the circumstances it was a quality showing for Bowers. For Bowers – and the entire offense for that matter – they will have the opportunity to build upon their opening day performance as they come back home to play FCS opponent Weber State.
Building upon their performance doubly goes for their defense which gave up their fair share of yards. North Carolina gained over 200 yards on the ground and 221 passing yards.
Now, the passing yards might look good, it’s more of what North Carolina was doing rather than Cal actually stopping them. North Carolina was, and still is, looking for an identity on the offensive end.

North Carolina shuffled along personnel with quarterbacks changing hand . Brandon Harris started the game and played a good portion of the game very poorly. Harris was 7-for-16 with 60 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions.
On the other end of the spectrum freshman Chazz Surratt came into the game and North Carolina was able to move the ball. Surratt had a quality showing completing 64% of his passes, 161 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions.
Plus, Surratt was dynamic on the ground as a running as he ran for 66 yards and he scored a rushing touchdown at the end of the game.

Free Week 2 NCAA Football Pick
There’s no line, but Weber State could potentially give Cal a scare. We seem to see these FCS opponents give FBS opponents year after year a scare and even beat some of these FBS schools.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick:
Last week, Oregon State got a scare against Portland State. Baylor got upended in one of the biggest upsets as far as spread is concerned against Liberty. So, you never know.
There’s no spread as of yet and you’ll probably have to dig deep to find a spread for this one, but I think the play maybe taking the over in this one. Scoring should be no problem in this one.
