These conference foes in the Atlantic Coast Conference have similar records, and both need to rebound after losses in Week 7.
The visiting Demon Deacons dropped last week quite predictably to the #2 ranked Clemson Tigers, while Georgia Tech dropped a last-second heartbreaker to the Miami Hurricanes.
Both Wake and Tech have recently been sniffing huge upsets that could’ve turned the ACC on its axis, but in both cases, they didn’t quite come to pass.

The Jackets were four seconds away from putting down the #11-ranked ‘Canes on the road in Coral Gables, until Miami kicker Michael Badgley drilled a 24-yarder to seal a win for the home team.
While Wake Forest fell by two touchdowns to Clemson, the week before the Deacons came up short by just a lone TD to prestigious Florida State. Wake was also in last week’s match versus Clemson, whose supposed only peer in the entire country is the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Clearly, both of this weekend’s teams need to get over some close-but-no-cigar scenarios to wipe the slate clean.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Clemson did not destroy Wake Forest, like many predicted it would, in last week’s 28-14 win for the Tigers. Much of Wake Forest’s success thus far during its 4-2 stretch is due to WR John Dortch, who has amassed 35 receptions for 435 yards and five majors.
Senior QB John Wolford has also been a consistent threat, creating in the air and scrambling en route to 1,279 total yards and 12 total TDs.

The Demon Deacons were rolling at the beginning of the year, winning their first three games (including an ACC match-up against Boston College) by a combined score of 131-27.
If Wake Forest can re-discover that early season spark, the visitors might stand a chance against the unique threat the Yellow Jackets pose – especially on their home turf of Bobby Dodd Stadium.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Tech, along with the Naval Academy and a small handful of others in the Bowl Subdivision, present the rare challenge of defensing the read-option offense.
In an attack where the field general does far more rushing than passing and any number of ball-carriers can tote the ball, it is crucial for an opposing defense to avoid over-committing.
If they do, Georgia Tech can burn you by stretching it out wide, or with a sneaky pass over the top, as the Jackets proved in their narrow loss to Miami, a program that was cruising until GT came to south Florida.
Not surprisingly, starting QB TaQuan Marshall, just a 5″10, 185-lb junior from Hamilton, GA (throw out the pre-conceived notions of what a QB is supposed to look like in this type of offense) leads the team in passing and rushing yards, with 388 and 541, respectively. Marshall completed some rare passes to senior WR Ricky Jeune – who has three TDs on just 12 catches to date.

On top of this, the Jackets have an upper-tier offense in the FBS, yielding just over 20 points per game on average. Georgia Tech also has another one-point loss, a 42-41 nailbiter to Tennessee to kick off the 2017 campaign.
Clearly, Georgia Tech is a bounce here or there away from its season looking vastly different. Can the program take on the water of those kind of letdowns while finishing strong?

Free Week 8 NCAA Football Pick
It’s plain to see that this match-up has the looks of being another tight game.
However, I think the home team Yellow Jackets are the stronger overall outfit in this game, dropping to an SEC East division foe and Miami, one of the creams of the crop in the ACC, by a combined safety.
I like Tech to re-establish its footing and move to 4-2 on the season.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Georgia Tech -9.5.
Star WR Dortch will likely see double-teams from the Georgia Tech secondary, and I’m not sure that Wake Forest has enough diversity of talent to adjust if the home team shuts Dortch down.
Sure, the Deacons have acquitted themselves well in the past couple of weeks against FSU and Clemson, but I think something truer to the mark of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s pecking order will occur on Saturday night in Atlanta.
