A surging Virginia Tech squad looks to maintain momentum opposite the backpedaling Syracuse Orange this Saturday from the Carrier Dome.
Last weekend, the Hokies notched a third consecutive one-sided victory after upsetting #17 ranked North Carolina 34-3.
Unfortunately, Syracuse had no such luck as the Orange were defeated for the fourth time in five weeks.

Even with Syracuse holding home-field advantage, Virginia Tech will be heavy favorites in this ACC showdown.
Virginia Tech Hokies
Against a capable North Carolina unit, Virginia Tech shut the lights out with a dominant two-way performance.
The Hokies negated UNC’s offensive attack, allowing just 131 total yards of offense, and three points scored. QB Jerod Evans’ dual-threat talents accounted for two of #17 ranked Virginia Tech’s four touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the sturdy leg of kicker Joey Slye (10 pts) rounded out an impressive offensive showing for the ACC Coastal leaders.

Defensively, a raucous Hokie bunch deadpanned Mitch Trubisky’s robust arm, limiting the Junior QB to 58 yards and two interceptions.
In Trubisky’s previous three outings, the Ohio native compiled gaudy passing numbers including: 1,290 passing yards (430 per game), 90-111 completions (81%) and a sterling 11/0 td/int ratio.
That Virginia Tech was able to render Trubisky ineffective is an overwhelming testament to their defensive wares.
Syracuse Orange
Though Syracuse compiled 326 yards of offense opposite Wake Forest, the end-zone evaded the hard-luck Orange.
Syracuse’s third down efficiency (5-of-16) and time of possession (25:56) lent no favors to an uninspired passing game. QB Eric Dungey was held to 6.3 yards per completion.
Overall, the Sophomore completed 16-of-25 passes for 156 yards and a lackluster 0/1 td/int. ratio.

Equally as unimpressive was the defensive effort of Syracuse.
The Orange struggled all afternoon to contain Wake QB John Wolford. In total, Wolford accounted for 234 yards of offense and two touchdowns.
RB Cade Carney also dismantled the Syracuse front seven, to the tune of 104 yards on 29 carries.
