Two middle powers in the Atlantic Coast Conference lock horns in the windy confines of Heinz Field on Saturday afternoon.
After showcasing impressive wins against the likes of Boise State and North Carolina, the visiting Cavaliers of the University of Virginia will look to atone for an ugly loss last week versus ACC also-ran Boston College.

The home team Panthers, playing in the barn of their NFL cousin Steelers, haven’t blown anyone’s hair back in 2017. Pittsburgh sits at 3-5 overall, with just one win in the ACC so far.
Pitt is giving up too many yards and points, and not generating enough of them itself to find success. If the Panthers are to grab a home win, they must generate more scoring opporunities with their skill-position players.
Virginia Cavaliers
The Cavs have been rather all over the radar thus far this campaign.
Although, in the wake of the Charlottesville nonsense recently, the hiring of Carla Williams, the first African-American woman to serve as Power 5 conference school Athletic Director, is a great story – it can’t overshadow what’s occurring with the football program.

Ultimately, a 31-point loss to Boston College is unacceptable if Virginia has designs of vaunting up the ACC Coastal division standings.
The Cavs have been generating some nice offense thanks to QB Kurt Benkert, whose 1,806 yards and 15 TDs to just four INTs has been pacing the team. Virginia will need more of the aerial exclamation points to feel confident about grabbing a win on the road this weekend.
Pittsburgh Panthers
The Pitt Panthers eked out a victory against Duke last week, but before that they were just one for their last six in the win ledger. Clearly, 2017 has gone somewhat pear-shaped for the Panthers.
Pittsburgh is surrendering 434 yards per game, with the majority of those being attributed to the pass defense. That should suit visiting UVa just fine, as its speciality is the passing attack.

If Pittsburgh cannot tighten up the coverage in the secondary, or conversely exert more pressure on QB Benkert to force some bad decisions (he hasn’t made many thus far), Virginia could have an offensive field day on the shores of the Allegheny.
On the other side of the ball, the action has to come from sophomore RB Darrin Hall, who has 362 rush yards on just 55 carries – good for a healthy 6.6 yards per carry clip.
The wide receiver duo of Jester Weah and Rafael Araujo-Lopes has also been dynamic; they’ve merged for 901 yards and four majors. Pitt needs much more of that kind of form to hit paydirt this Saturday.

The bookmakers actually list Pittsburgh as the slight favorite, perhaps by virtue of nothing more than the game being played in Pennsylvania. I don’t see it. I think Virginia is a superior ballclub and Benkert and his receiving corps should take it to the Panthers.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Virginia -10.
In a town that is so passionate about their Pittsburgh Steelers, perhaps it is difficult to drum up enough support for the college football representative.
Although you surely can’t attribute Pitt’s poor results to that, maybe there is something to be said for playing in the shadows of Big Ben and his Roethlis-Burger in the House that Ketchup built.
What else is there to say? If you’re a Pitt fan, grab a Rolling Rock, squeeze in a screening of The Deer Hunter and prepare yourself for a home loss.
