The Cavs started the season about as poorly as possible.
They lost to little FCS brother Richmond and then followed it with a couple more. Things took a positive turn last week when they surprised Central Michigan.
It shows you how far this program has fallen that they weren’t even favourites at home against the third best team in the MAC.

Duke is also coming off a win, maybe the biggest in their history as they won at hallowed Notre Dame last week, as near 3TD underdogs.
Duke is supposed to be sliding back a bit this season and we can’t be sure given the results.
Back to back losses to Wake Forest and Northwestern were kind of ugly.
Virginia Cavaliers
It is going to take longer than a month to know the true impact of Bronco Mendenhall coming to Charlottesville.
Thus far the record speaks for itself and even though the win over CMU is encouraging there might not be another one this season.
Neither the offense or defense has posted good numbers to date. However, maybe last week’s win instills some confidence in a beaten down group. I do want to given Bronco his motivational props.

Kurt Benkert, a transfer from East Carolina is getting more and more comfortable leading the Cavs. He had his best game of the season against CMU as the offense was finally able to make some big plays.
Though it wasn’t an emphasis the Cavs were able to run the ball against the Chippewas.
That sort of balance is what they need though they may be able to be more physical against Duke as well.
Duke Blue Devils
I know that the Duke football program has been respectable the last several seasons but I still think that it is not too much to say that last week’s win at ND was the biggest in school history.
The question is whether they can build on it. In the win the defense was not great, it yielded 35 points, but their balanced offense gave them counters and they did not give up after being down 14-0.
Their true level is probably below last week but Virginia should be another win.

Freshman QB Daniel Jones is the future of the program and based on what we say last week the future could be very bright.
He and 6’5″ target Andrew Nash connected often and the catch radius of the received makes it so that Jones does not have to be perfect when looking in his direction.
Expect him to continue to get a lot of chances to influence the game. Ditto for Jela Duncan, another senior, who runs the ball with a lot of power.
Having a freshman at QB is so much more workable if he is surrounded by players who know what to do.

Free Week 5 NCAA Football Prediction
Duke definitely looks like the smart play here, even though it is a natural letdown spot for the Blue Devils.
The number is very appetizing, even with the hook. My hunch is that it goes up though so you might want to get on the home team now.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Duke -3.5
I thought this price for this one might be off given Duke recent triumph but I guess not.
I like them a lot at this number as I do not see these teams as even and Virginia especially has to show me more than what they have to date.
Duke is a great bet and this is also a wonderful teaser opportunity.
