The Roadrunners hope to shake off a two-game losing skid, as they take on the Blazers defense that has been outstanding, to say the least, this season.
UT-San Antonio has the distinction of being ranked dead-last in the nation in total yards per game in 2018. Freshmen QB Jordan Weeks took on his first start last weekend against Southern Mississippi, but only completed 12 passes for 117 yards in the 27 – 17 loss.
Offensive coordinator Al Borges brought quite a resume to Head Coach Frank Wilson, but it has simply not translated to much production in San Antonio this season.

The UAB Blazers won 8 games last year in their first season back at FBS Division college football. So far in year 2, so far so much better, as a 7 – 1 record has them eyeing even more than just another bowl bid.
The Blazers sit perched atop the Conference USA West Division standings at 5 – 0, having already beaten second place LA Tech in the heads-up battle back on October 6.
Although the Blazers have a big meeting at Texas A&M left to play on their schedule, their final game of the year against Middle Tennessee could decide who gets in the to Conference Championship game.
UTSA Roadrunners
The Roadrunner’s were expected to be much improved with the hiring of Al Borges at offensive coordinator in 2018. After all of his success at Auburn among his other stops, the offense was starting over without three-year starter Dalton Sturm, and a few other significant losses on that side of the ball.
UT-San Antonio ranked 40th in the nation in the running game last year, and are near dead-last in that category in 2018. BJ Daniels is the teams leading rusher, but he only has carried the ball 78 times for 284 yards.

Jalen Rhodes and former starting QB Cordale Grundy appear as 2 and 3 in the depth chart, and we know Grundy is now out of the picture.
The passing game has had limited success, evident by the fact that Greg Campbell and Tykee Ogle-Kellogg lead all wide outs with 2 TD’s each.
Jordan Weeks doesn’t seem like the guy who is going to use his legs to help move the ball, so his limited mobility better come with a strong arm.
UAB Blazers
The Blazers are coming off a nearly perfect defensive performance last weekend, after their 19 – 0 shutout over UTEP. UAB has only allowed 35 points in their 5 conference games that have all resulted in wins.
Overall, the Blazers have only allowed 106 points after 8 games, which is why you see them in the top-5 of most major defensive categories this year.
The Blazers are ranked 5th in both total yards and passing yards allowed, and 3rd overall in points per game (13.2). If you think that means they are one-dimensional, than you better think again because this team ranks 25th in run defense as well.
The 19 – 0 win over UTEP last weekend was the third time this season that the Blazers have held their opponents scoreless. UAB opened the year with a 52 – 0 win over Savannah State, and took down Rice, 42 – 0, on October 13. Charlotte and LA Tech were also held to only 7 points each, which you guessed it, ended in UAB wins.
A..J Erdely is not having a prolific season to say the least, but his running game has been majorly supportive in 2018. Sophomore RB Spencer Brown has been a dominant force in the rushing attack for the Blazers. He’s already toted the rock 155 times, and made to the promised land on 11 occasions.
Erdely still needs to work on moving the ball through the air, however, as his leading receiver, Xavier Ubosi, has 12 receptions for 378 yards. Most of those receptions have gone for big plays, obviously, since you notice the 31 yards average per grab.

Connor Lisa and Andre Wilson have combined for 30 catches and three scores in the passing game.
The plan will still be to run the ball as often as possible, and unless UTSA proves they can slow it down, Erdely will run or hand it off early and often.
UAB is favored at -22, and their defense is playing lights out as they host the struggling Roadrunners.
The deciding factor will be how well the UAB offense moves the ball, because their defense will likely put them in good field position should they cause a turnover or 4.

The move to put a less mobile quarterback change as UTSA has done, sure changes the dynamic with not much time left to adjust. Cordale Grundy was certainly going to use his legs to move the chains, or in fact, break out for nice run that does more than just keep the offense on the field.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: The Blazers are favored big at -22, with a low 43.5 listed on the total. Free ATS or O/U final score pick provided below!
The play is tricky, because UAB will run the ball all night long if they can, and UTSA will have trouble stopping it. Let’s call for a 29 – 12 type of game to break out at Legion Field on Saturday night.
I did, however, take UTEP to cover the +16.5 against UAB last weekend, and that obviously came up just short. This will be another of those close calls where I see the dog covering the inflated line of +22.
