Both teams hope to improve their defenses a lot as the UTEP Miners head to Lubbock to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
The visitors from UTEP gave very little fight in their season opening lost at Arkansas. The Razorbacks racked up 490 yards en route to a 48-13 over these Miners.

As for Texas Tech, they had no problem offensively, but their defense saw Sam Houston State drop 45 points on them. Come conference play, they’ll certainly have to improve on that number or things could get out of hand on weekly basis.
Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM with Texas Tech being 20.5 point favorites.
UTEP
The Miners showed very little threat offensively and had zero ability to slow down the Razorbacks attack in their Week 1 loss.
UTEP QB Mack Leftwich threw for only 120 yards to go along with 1 interception. The sluggish game is a giant concern for the Miners as Leftwich has struggled dating back to last season. Leftwich has been extremely bad at finding the end zone with his passes.

RB Aaron Jones led the way for the Miners with 70 yards, but that too is a major concern for the Miners. UTEP has also been known as a run first offense and will typically rush for more yards than they pass. If Jones can’t get it going this year things will be certainly be tough on the Miners.
Jones not only handled the running back duties in Week 1, he also led the way receiving. Jones had 6 receptions for 83 yards to go along with his run yards.
Texas Tech
Texas Tech showed signs of their old offensive juggernaut ways in Week 1. The Red Raiders put up 59 points against Sam Houston State and they were clicking on all cylinders when it came to downfield passes.
QB Patrick Mahomes II threw for 425 yards in the Red Raiders offensive explosion and also threw 4 touchdowns.
Mahomes main targets in Week 1 were WR Devin Lauderdale and WR Ian Sadler.
[dfads params=’groups=219&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Lauderdale led the way with 8 receptions for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns. Sadler wasn’t far behind as he caught 5 passes for 73 yards to go along with 2 touchdowns himself. The Red Raiders had 10 different receivers have at least one catch.
Texas Tech also showed off what their running game had to offer as they rushed for 174 yards a team. Scoring touchdowns on the ground for Texas Tech were Justin Stockton and Jakeem Grant.

Free Week 2 NCAA Football Prediction
Even though Texas Tech’s defense looked bad in Week 1, UTEP’s offense really didn’t offer too much against the Razorbacks.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Texas Tech ATS
Scoring 59 points, even against Sam Houston State, was an impressive feat for Texas Tech. They looked in rhythm throughout the whole game and have the playmakers that can be a serious difference this year.
