The USC Trojans find themselves hoping to even become bowl eligible, as they face UCLA and Notre Dame to finish out the regular season. At 5 – 5, the Trojans let a golden opportunity slip away to the Cal Bears last weekend, letting a 14 – 0 halftime lead completely evaporate.
Since 1942, the battle for the Victory Bell has transpired in this long-time rivalry that dates back to 1929. The Trojans hold the series edge 49 – 31 – 7 and has taken the last 3 meetings, although UCLA has won 2 of the last 3 games at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA.

This is the spot where we usually talk about the home team and what they are doing, either now or overall this season. I need only one word when it comes to UCLA in 2018.. YUCK! Wait, let me add another word.. POO!
The Chip Kelly project has simply been a disaster, although they can obviously erase a bit of the pain with a win over USC this weekend. A Bruin win would leave USC needing a win over possible playoff contender Notre Dame to reach the 6-win mark.
USC Trojans
Everything looked like it was the way it was supposed be last weekend when USC met California at home. The Trojans had won 14 straight meetings against the Bears, and carried a 14 – 0 halftime lead, needing a win to become bowl eligible.
Someone forgot to tell Cal that they needed to just go home and forget playing football against USC until next season. The Bears’ defense in the second half was absolutely outstanding. Not only did they completely shut down the USC offense for the last 2 periods, but the Cal intensity changed coming out of the locker room.

You could literally see that the Trojans were talking a bit too much smack, as was the case with DB Olaijah Griffin. Griffin tried to get all up in Cal WR Vic Wharton’s mug, and that didn’t exactly work out to well for him. Griffin, a freshmen, and Wharton, a senior, got into it all throughout a drive in the third quarter, and then Wharton shut him up by beating him for 6 on a nice inside slant.
The game simply changed from there, and Cal went on to win 15 – 14, which was the score just 9 minutes into the 3rd quarter. Neither team scored a single point from the 6 minute mark of the 3rd quarter on, as USC was left on the losing side against Cal for the first time in almost 2 decades.
UCLA Bruins
The UCLA Bruins could potentially lose 10 games for the first time since 1977, when they finished the season 0 – 11. Despite the 2 – 8 record for the Bruins, doing their part to keep USC out of a bowl game would at least salvage something from 2018.
Not to mention that the UCLA seniors are probably not wanting to go 0 – 4 in 4 years against USC in their careers. Wait, I just mentioned it, so okay there’s that.
They don’t bring up the 1977 season at UCLA, because it was the only time they have lost double-digit games in any other season. Should Chip Kelly manage his way to 2 – 10 with losses to USC and Stanford, the questions will be many towards his ability to win football games. I think we all know how Chip Kelly’s NFL coaching career worked out, and his arrival at UCLA is now under plenty of pressure..
The Bruins are 1 – 4 at home this season, and have lost their last three coming into the weekend’s rivalry game.

Michigan transfer QB Wilton Speight put up a decent performance against Arizona State last weekend, albeit a 31- 28 loss to the Sun Devils. Speight put up 335 passing yards, went 26 for 35 and found the end zone twice through the air.
Junior WR Caleb Wilson proved why he is Speight’s favorite target last weekend. Wilson grabbed 11 balls for 164 yards, while being on the receiving end on each of Speight’s TD passes.
It also looks like USC WR Michael Pittman might miss this game to that shoulder injury that saw him exit last weekend’s game. That is significant to this offense, as injuries have riddled this team all season.

Free Week 12 NCAA Football Pick
Both teams actually have a lengthy list of players on the injury report this weekend. Keeping track of who is on the field for this game, could be the toughest challenge for each coach.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: The Trojans are favored at -3.5, with a 54.5 showing on the total. Free ATS or O/U final score pick provided below!
The 4* play goes towards the Over 54.5, being that these two defenses could provide some turnovers. With as many questionable players for this game on both sides of the ball, as we have here, new faces take time to gel, and this is a rivalry game no matter the records.
