Frank Beamer looks to go out with an over .500 team as he coaches his final game at Virginia Tech when they take on Tulsa in the Independence Bowl.
Beamer has now led the Hokies to 22 straight bowl games and finishes where it all started.

Beamer’s first bowl game was the Independence Bowl back in 1993.
The Hokies will take on a Tulsa team that finished with an identical 6-6 record thanks to their season finale win over Tulane.
Virginia Tech
Beamer wants to go out the same way he started, a winner. Beamer announced his retirement mid way through the season, but vowed to stay on board through the season’s end.
The Hokies defeated Virginia 23-20 in the season finale to become bowl eligible to keep the bowl game streak alive for Frank Beamer.
Beamer will stay on in a different position within the athletic department following the team’s bowl game finale.

Virginia Tech has been a different team with QB Michael Brewer back. Brewer broke his collar bone in the first game of the season and returned to lead Va Tech to wins in 3 of their last 4. The Hokies defeated Boston College, Georgia Tech, and Virginia with their only loss coming to UNC in overtime.
Virginia Tech was about as average as you can get this season going 6-6 both SU and ATS. They averaged 29.0 points per game while conceding 24.2 against.
Tulsa
Tulsa nearly finished the season with a loss to rival Tulane, but a late 4th quarter surge saved their season.
Tulsa needed a long touchdown, a fumble recovery for a touchdown, and a 90 plus yard interception all in about an 8 minute span to come from behind and grab their 6th win.

Senior running back Zach Langer and wide receiver Keyarris Garrett will both be playing in their finales as members of the Tulsa football team against Virginia Tech here in the Independence Bowl. Combined, the duo has accounted for 24 touchdowns this season to certainly lead the Golden Hurricane to this spot.
Garrett has nearly 1500 yards of receiving this season, which sits 2nd in the FBS.
QB Dane Evans needs just 42 yards to reach the 4000 yard plateau.
