I am still not sure this is a rivalry give the way that Penn State has dominated over the years but Temple won last year in a game that wasn’t really close.
It could be a leading indicator for the Owls but they also looked terrible in their opener and have just an FCS win to their credit thus far. A second win over PSU would definitely say something.
Penn State lost a close game on the road in their opener in a true rivalry against Pitt. After that slugfest they did beat Kent State but they probably should have won by more as they failed to cover.

This is a group with some talent but I am not sure where they are going to slot into the Big Ten at the moment.
Temple Owls
The Owls beat Stony Brook 38-0 last week. They covered and certainly dominated on the scoreboard but there is still some things that this Owls team really needs to work on.
QB Phillip Walker did not even complete 50% of his passes and if the defense doesn’t create multiple turnovers and the special teams doesn’t make several big run backs this would been more like a 17-3 game.
Walker is a senior and they need him to start executing like one.

When the Owls won last year they dominated in time of possession with the running game and made PSU quarterback Christian Hackenberg look very average.
The formula is probably the same for this contest though more difficult to execute on the road. Walker was efficient last year completing 15 of 20, he will need to be again for them to have a chance.
Penn State Nittany Lions
That game against Pitt might have been a loss but the Lions are still off to a solid start.
They showed they have some fight in them by coming back against the Panthers new quarterback Trace McSorley looked good against a good Pitt D. Last week things were definitely lighter against Kent State.
They probably should have beat up on the Flashes more but were not in any real danger in the second half and it was definitely a trap game.
In last year’s game the Lions did not know what they had in RB Saquon Barkley.
He had just one run for one yard before bursting on the scene the following week with 115 yards on his way to a 1000+ season.

Barkley is the key to the PSU offense, scoring 4 TDs against Pitt and averaging close to 100ypg thus far.
If he has a big game Penn State could dominate.

Free Week 3 NCAA Football Prediction
Before the season started I would have given Temple a great shot in this one but based on what I have seen so far I am not very impressed. The question is whether the line is fair as that 8.5 might as well be 10.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Penn State 8.5
I think you have to go with chalk here. Temple might have got PSU last year but this game is in Happy Valley which is a lot different.
Penn State has more talent and the difference maker Temple wants Walker to be we have not seen this season. I am not sure it is going to come out in a game like this. That is too much to ask.
