This week’s game between Syracuse and Louisville might not look like much of anything but, between these two teams, it has meaning.

The winner will stay out of last place in the ACC Atlantic Division. And nobody likes finishing last.
Syracuse Orange
Only Syracuse can finish in sole possession of the cellar. If the Orange can’t win on the road, it will end the season 2–6 in the division. That’s compared to Louisville, which can only finish 3–5 at worst, which would have them tied with Florida State.
Of course, SU has one more game next week against a surprising Boston College side that will feel like it can come into the Carrier Dome and win.

Last week was a disaster for the Orange at the Dome. SU led by 14 at the half but got outscored 40–5 in the second half against Wake Forest and ended up losing by three touchdowns, 64–43.
Zack Mahoney threw two interceptions and the SU defense could not do anything to stop Wake Forest’s running game. The Demon Deacons ran it 25 times for 363 yards per carry. That’s 14.5 yards per carry and the long run was only 43 yards. I’m serious when I say “only.” With those numbers you would figure they took one for at least 75 or 80.
The mood of the players on the field and the fans in the seats suggested that this could a dead team. But Dino Barber has an indomitable spirit and he will be extra motivational this week. When Barber challenges his team, it often times responds. And that is what Louisville will be up against in its final ACC game of the season.
Louisville Cardinals
If it weren’t for Florida State’s failures this season, writers and fans alike would be pointing at Louisville as the underachieving team in the conference.
Louisville brought back Lamar Jackson, the reining Heisman Trophy winner and most electric player in the country at the quarterback position. Jackson alone made the expectations sky-high for Louisville but perhaps there was less around him than the people who set those expectations thought.
[dfads params=’groups=219&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Because Jackson’s numbers are gaudy. He surpassed 3000 passing yards last week in a win over UVA. He’s completing over 60 percent of his passes and has 21 touchdowns to just six interceptions. It all computes to a 148.2 passer rating.
He’s also the team’s leading rusher by a wide margin, rushing 178 times for 1176 yards. Add another 15 rushing touchdowns and Jackson has accounted for 36 TDs this season.
Problem is, that’s really all Louisville has. The rest of the ballcarriers average about 5.5 yards per carry, which isn’t bad but it’s a yard per less than Jackson.
Neither of the Cardinals’ first two losses were particularly bad, against Clemson (it was a blowout, however) and at NC State. But if you’re a playoff hopeful, you don’t lose at NC State.
The two that followed were what sent the Cardinals spiraling toward last place. Louisville lost against Boston College and then at Wake Forest. UL did beat Florida State by a field goal but that’s all it’s beaten in the division! And all that’s left is Syracuse.

Free Week 12 NCAA Football Pick
Louisville is at least two touchdowns better than Syracuse, as far as talent goes. But I think we’ll see an elevated Syracuse team after last week’s disaster.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Syracuse +13.5
Either that, or the Orange falls flat on its face, because this Orange has a face.
