November is finally upon us, and so is the nearing of the end of the regular season for the 2018 NCAA Football year. We have a Pac-12 North battle on Saturday, November 3rd, as the Stanford Cardinal head up north to Seattle to take on the Washington Huskies at Husky Stadium.

Both teams are coming off of losses, and both are trying to make that final push to be one of the Top 25 teams in college football in the polls before the Bowl Season kicks off. Both teams lost by three or less points last weekend.
Stanford Cardinal
Stanford lost a heart-breaker last weekend at home against #10 Washington State, which in turn knocked them out of the Top 25 once again. The Cardinal looked to be on their way to an upset against the Cougars, before Washington State finally pulled ahead at the end.
Stanford will need to get their running game going against the Huskies if they want to avoid being swept by the Washington schools in 2018. Bryce Love had a 11.8 ypr performance on Saturday, but the Cardinal will have to get the ball in his hands more than six times if they want to maximize production out of him.

Defense will win this game. Either for Washington or Stanford. The Cardinal shut down Washington State’s running game last weekend, giving up only 59 yards in the game. If they can do that to the Huskies, they will have a great shot at wining the game seeing as the Huskies don’t quite have the same aerial assault that the Cougars have.
Washington Huskies
The Benching of Jake Browning: A Love/Hate Story, by Chris Petersen. The success of the Huskies season will always come back to their last game at Cal. Head coach Chris Petersen decided to bench a slumping Jake Browning late in the game for backup Jake Heaner. This decision almost immediately backfired for the Huskies as Heaner threw the game winning TD to the Golden Bears in the form of a pick-6.
Prior to being benched, Browning had gone 11-21 for 148 yards with a TD and a INT. Not great numbers, but as anybody who has followed this team this year could tell you, Jake Browning is not as good as he has been touted as being for the past four years. Heaner ended up with an even worse line; 1-11 for 11 yards and that god-awful INT.

Washington’s biggest saving grace all season long has been their defense, and that was the case last weekend as well. The Huskies could definitely use some more big plays by their defense, but all in all, this unit has kept them in games all year long. It’s either been offensive play calling, or poor execution by the offensive players on the field that has led to this teams three losses up to this point.

Despite their offensive struggles, Washington is still the better team coming into this game. Jake Browning has been named the starting QB for the Huskies, and whether you think that is a good thing or a bad thing, this Jake still knows this offense better than the other Jake.

Take Washington to win this game at home, and to cover the spread. Probably take the UNDER while you’re at it as well.
Stanford played lights out rush defense last week against the Cougars, but the Huskies, when healthy, have a far superior run game than that of the Cougars. Look for Washington to establish a run game early and carry the momentum for much of the game.
