The TCU Horned Frogs remain one of the favorites to make the second annual College Football Playoffs entering Week 3, and their Week 2 performance against SFA did little to fuel the fire of detractors. The Horned Frogs took down SFA — admittedly an inferior opponent – 70-7 in convincing fashion.

The Mustangs are also coming off a convincing win, taking down UNT 31-13. The only difference? Nobody is going to look at this group as a National Championship contender, and that’s going to be apparent — if all goes according to TCU’s plan — when this one is said and done.
SMU
What is important about this game for the Mustangs? Not a lot to be honest, other than that this is a rivalry contest for this squad. Not one person reading this at this very moment believes SMU will pull off the upset, and there’s a reason this squad is a massive underdog at this point in the process.

All of the pressure in this one is on the Horned Frogs. And that might be exactly what SMU wants. While SMU might not win the game, a good showing would go a long way in keeping the momentum it gained by knocking off North Texas last week.
Keeping up with the Horned Frogs could also boost team morale as the Mustangs head into a winnable matchup with James Madison next week.
TCU
Expect to see the TCU offense on fire yet again in Week 3 versus the SMU Mustangs.
With a Heisman Trophy contender on board — that being quarterback Trevone Boykin — TCU is in good shape no matter who it plays.
The man behind center recently collected 4,500 yards of offense in 2014, and he’s going to show the nation why he’s worthy of both a national title run and a Heisman Trophy run in 2015.

Defensively, look for the Horned Frogs to hone in on the run game. SMU hasn’t been able to find a ton of success in that category thus far, but the three-headed monster comprising Xavier Jones, Braeden West and Prescott Line should get their fair share of a showing against this rival.
The Horned Frogs do have two converted safeties, but watching Matt Davis, SMU’s dual-threat quarterback, has to be a priority.

Free Week 3 NCAA Football Prediction
Although it’s true (sometimes) that anything can happen when two rivals face off, don’t expect this one to have a wild finish. TCU gets the obvious SU win, and it gets the ATS victory as well.
