Both teams got wins to open the 2017 season. The Penn State Nittany Lions were impressive, while Pittsburgh was great for a half and then they had to go life-and-death with Youngstown State and beat them in overtime.
Pittsburgh Panthers
The Pitt Panthers relied heavily on junior halfback Qadree Ollison who touched the ball 27 times. Obviously, that kind of production isn’t sustainable for an entire season.
And low and behold, Ollison injured his ankle and is questionable versus Penn State.

Ollison left the game early and when he did, Pitt’s production greatly suffered. Junior halfback Darrin Hall got most of the load and it wasn’t the same. Hall carried the ball 13 times for 52 yards.
USC transfer Max Browne is trying to resurrect his career and thus far it’s not off to the best of starts. Browne only threw for 140 yards, but he didn’t make any mistakes and threw a touchdown.
However, this was against an FCS school, not against a top ranked team like what they’ll be facing this week.
Defensively, it was a struggle as Youngstown State was able to pass the ball for 9.4 per pass and they gained over 100 yards on the ground.

All told, Youngstown gained over 400 yards of total offense and they racked up 19 first downs. Penn State will be licking their chops this week.
Penn State Nittany Lions
It was basically a perfect performance for the Penn State Nittany Lions as they manhandled Akron 52-0.
Junior quarterback Trace McSorley was able to smack out a couple of home runs and he threw for 280 yards.
The only blemish was an interception on the first series of the game as Penn State was in the red zone.

Junior halfback Saquon Barkley showed off his talent and why most consider him the best halfback in the country as he went 172 yards on just 14 carries plus a couple of touchdowns.
Penn State was just as strong defensively as they held Akron to 87 passing yards and they were only able to rush for 2.1 yards a pop.

Free Week 2 NCAA Football Pick
Penn State is team on a mission and I know it’s only one game, but they are firing on all cylinders. I feel like they are at their peak ride now and betting against them is not a smart bet.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Penn State ATS -20.5
I like Penn State to cover this one. The home crowd will be fired up at home against their in-state rival and I believe the Nittany Lions will put on a show.
Penn State has been doing things right going back to last year and I see that trend continuing.
