A crucial Big Ten matchup takes place Saturday night as the Penn State Nittany Lions take on the Maryland Terrapins.
The Nittany Lions look to get on the right track coming off a loss to Ohio State in Columbus.

For the Terrapins, they are trying to put the outside noise away as interim coach Mike Locksley comes in trying to salvage a grim looking season while the Terrapins are coming off a bye week and a 2-4 record this season.
Penn State
Penn State is looking to put last week’s loss behind them as they had a good showing but just looked a little overmatched by the Ohio State offense. While the game at Ohio State proved that they could run with the big boys it also showed they have a lot to work on as well.
Christian Hackenberg the Penn State QB has a big arm with big play receivers around him so look for them to take some shots on Maryland’s weak secondary.
Hackenberg has 8 touchdowns in the air this year as well as one on the ground.
The run game for Penn State also looks like it is finding a rhythm as the team total rushing yards reached 195 last week as well which is definitely an improvement against a stout Ohio State Defense.

The Nittany Lions love to mix it up and stay balanced on offense with the rushing and passing attack so look for the in game adjustments to play a big role in this game.
Whatever Maryland throws at them, Penn State has played well enough on both sides of the ball to control the tempo of the game and really take control early.
As for the defense, they have done well taking out the Ohio State game, where their front seven looked totally overmatched, while JT Barrett and company really took advantage racking up over 400 yards total for the game.
This week luckily they play a lot smaller and inexperienced offense that includes starting quarterback Perry Hills who was benched for three games this year because of his poor performances against Richmond and Bowling Green.
The spotlight this week should be on Junior QB Christian Hackenberg as he looks close to 100% finally dealing with various injuries.
Maryland
The Terrapins have largely struggled in their time playing the Nittany Lions and being losers of 35 out of 38 matchups.
With a win in last year’s bout at Penn State where Maryland came away with the win in dramatic fashion winning 20-19, the Terrapins snapped a 28 game losing streak not including the tie in 1989.
Coming off a bye week the Terrapins should be fresh and ready to go, putting the tumultuous first half of the season behind them after their head coach was let go earlier last week.

With the offense struggling thus far into the season, averaging 18.5 ppg and really struggling to find any rhythm. There is one guy who stands out. Perry Hills has 5 touchdown passing and almost 500 yards passing playing in only three games as he was sidelined for his performances early in the season.
While the Terrapins are looking to find a leader and a go to guy, they won’t have an easy task at home this weekend with the surging Nittany Lions.

Free Week 8 NCAA Football Prediction
After a good showing but not great showing at Ohio State, Penn State looks like they are ready to go take the rest of the Big Ten and compete for the league title.
While Maryland is trying to figure out its off field issues this one should be respectable but still out of Maryland’s grasp.

The Nittany Lions get a good performance from Hackenberg early and cruise the rest of the way with the running game for a 2 touchdown win.
