The red hot Oklahoma State Cowboys had their College Football Playoff hopes damaged quite a bit when they were beaten badly at home by TCU last week.

They’ll have to get back on their feet and quickly as they head on the road to face a Texas Tech team that has played some great football early on.
Oklahoma State Cowboys
The Cowboys cruised through their first 3 games of this season – including two on the road – by an average margin of 37 points per game.

They then emerged as a double digit favorite at home over conference foe TCU – who was ranked 16th at the time – and lost outright.
They lost pretty badly too. They turned the ball over 4 times and gave up 238 yards on the ground to the Horned Frogs.
Mason Rudolph – who had gained some Heisman steam after his hot start – threw 3 picks and couldn’t make the plays when Oklahoma State needed them.
This week they will actually be up against a better offensive attack in Texas Tech but not quite the defense of TCU.
The Cowboys beat the Red Raiders by just 1 in last season’s matchup and they really got lucky as the game should’ve gone to overtime if it weren’t for a missed PAT in the final two minutes.
Rudolph threw for 395 yards and two touchdowns in that game while James Washington hauled in 6 catches for 158 yards and a touchdown.
While Texas Tech’s defense is improved from last season, they haven’t been tested much this year and this should be a good opportunity for Rudolph and the Cowboys to bounce back from their devastating loss at home last week.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Losing Patrick Mahomes to the NFL left a lot of question marks surrounding the Texas Tech offense and if they could maintain the explosiveness from the last bunch of years.

Early on, it appears that won’t be much of an issue as Nic Shimonek has stepped in very nicely early on – leading the Red Raider offense to average 45 points and 587 yards per game early on.
The win over Houston last week was their biggest test thus far as Arizona State’s defense was nearly as bad as theirs last season and didn’t show much improvement.
Head coach Kliff Kingsbury stressed how focused he would be on defense this year after the Red Raiders were horrific on that side of the ball last year and Kingsbury was being talked about as being on the hot seat if they didn’t improve.
Now, they will really get that test. It is going to be tough as they have given up 288 passing yards per game thus far and Oklahoma State may be one of the best passing offenses in the country.
On top of that, the Cowboys are coming off a difficult loss that they surely will be eager to make up for.
The Red Raiders like to play uptempo but getting into a shootout with Oklahoma State could get very dangerous. Unless their defense makes a big step forward this week, getting into a shootout may be their only option.

Both teams have a lot to prove as the Cowboys try to prove their loss was a fluke while the Red Raiders try to prove they keep pace with the top dogs of the Big 12.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Over 81.0
Both teams have the ability to score and neither team has a lot of fire on defense. At the same time, both teams know getting into a shootout can be dangerous for both teams. That didn’t stop them last year though. I like the over here.
