After looking very unimpressive in their opening game, Texas’s offense broke out against Cal but came up a point short from picking up a win.
The Longhorns picked up 650 yards of total offense and scored 20 unanswered points in the 4th.
However, they missed the extra point after Jerrod Heard’s 45 yard touchdown run with 1:11 left in the fourth quarter.
The bad sign for Charlie Strong’s squad is that they sit at 1-2 before starting their Big 12 schedule.
The good news is that they played their best game of the season last week and will have a chance to build off that at home.
Their first task in Big 12 play will be a ranked Oklahoma State team who has not faced a Power 5 conference team yet and really hasn’t been tested at all.

After the Longhorns beat the Cowboys twelve straight times from 1998 to 2009, Oklahoma State has won three of the last five.
All three of those wins have been at Texas so the Cowboys will look to keep that going this Saturday.
Oklahoma State
While the Cowboys are ranked in the top 25, they have not played a strong opponent yet.
The Longhorns are 1-2 but are playing pretty good football right now so this should be Oklahoma State’s toughest test so far.
Three wins over Central Michigan, Central Arkansas, and Texas-San Antonio have the Cowboys rolling but do they have them prepared for a road game at Texas?
Based off of their opponents, statistics won’t prove a ton about the talent level of the football team. Their defense has played well and their offense has put up plenty of points.
[dfads params=’groups=226&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
The Cowboys got dominated by the Longhorns last season – losing 28-7 at home.
Oklahoma State had only 9 first downs and were outgained 430-192 by Texas.
They couldn’t slow down Texas’s passing or rushing attack. The Cowboys will have to do better this time around and keep their recent success up at Texas if they hope to keep their spot in the Top 25.
Texas
Jerrod Heard had a career game last week against Cal and will need to do something of the sort again this week if the Longhorns want to get back on their winning ways.
Heard ran for 163 yards and threw for 364 more in a Vince Young-like performance for the Longhorns.
Jonathan Gray ran for 2 touchdowns last week at Cal and ran for over 100 yards and a touchdown last year against the Cowboys.

The two-headed monster of Heard and Gray could cause all sorts of problems for the Cowboys and the rest of the Big 12 if they keep up their performance from last week.
While Cal’s defense is nothing special, they both really showed what they are capable of. People were likely aware of what Gray could do, but that performance from Heard definitely opened a lot of people’s eyes.
Their defense has not particularly well all season long and could leave the Longhorns in a shootout again if they don’t tighten up against the pass.

Free Week 4 NCAA Football Prediction
The Cowboys have won three straight this season and three straight at Texas over the last few seasons. Both of those streaks will come to end as Heard and Gray will lead the Longhorns to a victory this week.
Everyone should learn Jerrod Heard’s name because he is capable of some really special things. The defense will just need to be average if the Longhorn offense from last week shows up.
