The Northern Illinois Huskies will make the trip to Lincoln this Saturday to take the field against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Both teams are coming off a loss last week and looking to improve their 1-1 record.
The Huskies came up short 35-17 in Utah while Nebraska fell short in overtime 34-31 against Colorado.

If Nebraska wants to be known as a powerhouse in the Big 10, they need to do more than flex their muscles following the loss.
Northern Illinois Huskies
The NIU Huskies will be looking to bounce back from a tough, 35-17 loss at Utah. The Huskies were able to keep things interesting in the first half and went into the locker room down just 17-21. The balanced Utes offense was too much for NIU in the second half and the deficit grew as the game went on.
The Huskies only managed to pick up 14 first downs in the game, converting just two of twelve 3rd down opportunities. They moved the ball for a total of 302 yards in the contest with 235 of them coming through the air.
NIU struggled running the ball, picking up just 67 rushing yards. They were only able to average 2.7 yards per attempt.

Quarterback Ross Bowers completed 20 of 29 attempts for 229 yards and a touchdown. While those numbers aren’t exactly horrible, he also completed a pass to the other team. Jordan Nettles led what little ground attack NIU had, gaining 37 yards on 10 carries.
On the defensive side of the field, the Huskies gave up a total of 407 yards to the Utes. They allowed Utah to connect for 214 passing yards while giving up 193 to Utah’s running game.
If they hope to have any luck against Nebraska, the defense is going to have to do much better than the 5.2 yards per rush they gave up last week. Cornerback Devin Haney led the squad with nine tackles.
Keep an eye open for kicker John Richardson if this one is close. The kid was able to connect on a 46-yarder in his only attempt last week.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
After getting off to a productive first half last week, the Nebraska Cornhuskers fell 34-31 in overtime against Colorado. The Huskers ran off 17 unanswered points in the first half but somehow forgot a football game is four quarters long.
Nebraska was able to pick up 19 first downs in the ball game, converting five of their 15 third-down opportunities. The offense had a combined 469 total yards on the day with 290 of them through the air.
Quarterback Adrian Martinez completed 16 of his 26 passes for 290 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Running back Maurice Washington was his most productive target, picking up 118 yards and a touchdown on four receptions to go along with 77 rushing yards.
Linebacker Will Honas led the defense with nine tackles and cornerback Lamar Jackson had the defenses’ only interception.
After two games, Nebraska is giving up an average of 27.5 points per game. This might be their best chance to lower that number and get things on track for conference play gets started.

Free Week 3 NCAA Football Pick
Last week hurt and it hurt bad for Nebraska. To blow that big of a lead on the road when you’re expected to make some noise in the Big 10 will have consequences.
That being said, I think playing NIU at home is the perfect opportunity for the Cornhuskers to bounce back.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: OVER 54.5
I like the total going over 54.5 in this one. Nebraska has something to prove. They have averaged 138.5 yards per game on the ground and NIU has struggled to stop the run.
Add a solid game from the arm of Martinez and Nebraska will blow this one wide open early in the game. Yes, the Huskies will score their share of points. I see this one going over 60 with no problem.
