After being blown out 34-3 by Virginia Tech in some nasty weather, the North Carolina Tar Heels were able to bounce back and pulled out a 20-13 upset over the Miami Hurricanes. The Tar Heels are now in the lead of the ACC Coastal Division.
The Cavaliers are 2-4 with a 1-1 record in divisional play.
They didn’t have enough in the tank to keep up with Pittsburgh and fell at home by the score of 45-31 last week.

When these two schools net up last season, the Tar Heels were able to come away with the win against Virginia 26-13.
North Carolina Tar Heels
With Hurricane Matthew raging up the coast, the conditions on the field got the best of North Carolina and they were beat up by 31 points against Virginia Tech.
Last week the Heels were up against a different kind of Hurricane, the ones that play in south Florida, and Carolina found a way to hold off Miami for a 20-13 win at Hard Rock Stadium.
The Tar Heels received some help from Virginia Tech by means of a loss to Syracuse, giving the Heels a chance to return to the ACC Championship game.

None of it happens though unless Carolina is able to come away with the win this week against Virginia.
North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky had a solid game against Miami, throwing for 299 yards with two touchdowns. The Heels were able to convert an impressive 14 of 23 third downs without turning the ball over in the game.
They did have an issue with penalties though, drawing a yellow flag 11 times for 70 yards.
North Carolina is averaging 417.3 total yards a game while the defense is only allowing opposing offenses an average of 201.3 yards the air.
They are having a difficult time stopping the run though, allowing teams to rack up an average of 216 yards a game on the ground.
Virginia Cavaliers
Quarterback Kurt Benkert and the Cavaliers looked impressive in the first half against Pittsburgh, but they weren’t able to continue their success in the third and fourth quarters.
Benkert completed 20-44 passing for 278 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The pick came with only four seconds remaining in the first half and was returned for a touchdown by Jordan Whitehead.
The score put the Panthers ahead 35-28 at the break and Virginia was never able to get things rolling again on offense.

The Cavaliers defense played a lot better than you would think when looking at the scoreboard.
They gave up a total of 346 yards with 137 of them through the air. Virginia’s special teams unit gave up a kickoff return that was returned 93 yards for a touchdown.
Benkert is having a strong season for the Cavaliers. He has thrown the ball for 1,733 yards and 14 touchdowns while being picked off seven times.
Virginia has averaged a total of 403.3 yards per game with 289 of them coming from Benkert and the passing game.
They have had some difficulties on defense this year, giving up an average of 450.7 yards each contest

Free Week 8 NCAA Football Prediction
The Tar Heels have had some issues this season against the run, but overall their defense has improved.
This shouldn’t be an issue this week due to the fact that Virginia is much stronger as a passing team over the run.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: North Carolina -10
Benkert and the Cavaliers offense will put some points on the board in the game, but I don’t think it will be enough.
The Tar Heels have been given new life with the loss to Virginia Tech last week and they are on a mission to win the Coastal Division. The Heels will put up enough points to cover the spread, but I don’t see this game going over 68.
Week 8 Free Score Prediction: North Carolina 38 – Virginia 24
