The New Mexico State Aggies (3-8) head to Williams Stadium to take on the Liberty Flames (4-6) at 2 p.m ET. IF you are wondering if you have seen this before, you are correct because the two teams met on September 15.
As two newcomers to the Independents Conference, if we can call it a conference, The Aggies and Flames scheduled a home-and-home series to begin their new journeys in the FBS Division 1 system.

New Mexico State was part of the Sun Belt Conference a season ago, and they left off earning a bid to the Arizona Bowl which amounted to a 26 – 20 win in overtime.
Head Coach Doug Martin is in year 6 with the Aggies this year, and it obviously not be leading to an invitation from the bowl committee.
New Mexico State Aggies
The one thing the Aggies can say is that one of those 3 wins came against this Liberty program, and what a game it was when they met in September. A 49 – 41 Aggies win saw 55 2nd-half points in New Mexico, and the line setters are expecting another shootout this weekend.
The total in the first meeting was 64, and 90 points later we watched that get toppled before the 4th-quarter even got underway.

Freshmen QB Josh Adkins was just hitting the field in his first campaign with the Aggies, as Matt Romero was benched against New Mexico. Adkins has started every game since, with his 2nd start coming against Liberty. Adkins put up 402 passing yards and threw 4 TD passes without a pick in the 49 – 41 win.
The closest he has come to reaching that number again came against Alcorn State a couple of weekend’s ago, where he put up 396 and had another 4/0 TD to INT game.
With the good has come the bad, because the Aggies have lost 4 of its last 5 headed to the final game of 2018.
Liberty Flames
Junior QB Stephen Calvert has the potential to still go over 3,000 yards passing this season. With 244 yards, Calvert can reach the number, but nothing can change the 18/16 TD/INT ratio that he has accumulated along the way.
Calvert put up 465 yards in the first meeting back in September, but it also marked the 4th of his current 9-game run with an interception. The opposing defenses have come up 11 interceptions from Calvert’s last four starts, and he didn’t find the end zone once in their last two outings.
The Flames were shutout 53 – 0 last weekend at Auburn, however, so obviously no one found their way to the score sheet. Calvert ended the day 9 for 28 with an unimpressive 79 passing yards against their SEC foes this past Saturday.

Senior WR B.J Farrow caught only 2 balls and led the team with 27 yards in the ugly loss, and junior RB Frankie Hickson was held to his lowest output (45 Yds) since the Army game back on September 8 in game two of the season.
Where do you look when two teams met and played to a 49 – 41 game last time out? I expect them to change venues and go out and do it again, and the 73 on the total is a great place to look.
