This is a match up between two former Big XII teams. The last time these two teams squared was back in the 2014 Cotton Bowl when Missouri edge out Oklahoma State 41-31.
The last three times they went head-to-head as conference opponents the Cowboys got the better of the Tigers.

The Liberty Bowl is typically a game played by the Big XII and the SEC, but because of the lack of bowl eligible teams sometimes they don’t square off. And recently that has been the case.
Only three of the last six match ups have been between the two power-5 conferences. In those three games, however, the SEC has gotten the better of the Big XII; so we’ll see if that continues this year or if the Cowboys will buck that trend.
Missouri Tigers
Considering they play in the SEC, it’s surprising to see Missouri basically under-the-radar for most of the year. After starting the season at 3-0 they stumbled when conference play started.
However, two of those three losses came at the hands of Georgia and Alabama, so you can forgive the Tigers for that.

Their other two losses came against South Carolina and Kentucky by a combined total of three points. Missouri were a couple of breaks away from being a ten win program.
Statistically, Missouri has one of the better offenses in the nation. They rank 19th in the nation in total yards, 27th in passing, and 18th in points scored.
Defensively, they are pretty poor ranking 53rd in total yards, 104th in passing, and 22nd in rushing. Now, while those numbers don’t look bad, you have to consider the competition they’ve been facing.
Facing off against the likes of the Razorback, Wildcats, Gamecocks, Volunteers, Gators, and Commodores isn’t exactly going through the best offenses in college football. They’ll be up against it when the face Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Oklahoma State seemed to start figuring it out towards the end of the year. After losing a weird game in Manhattan, the Cowboys turned it around and played in one possession games for the next five games
They started with a win in Austin, a loss on the road against Baylor, a heartbreaking loss to Oklahoma as they could have upended them had the Sooners not converted a two point conversion.
Oklahoma State bounced back with an upset home win over the West Virginia Mountaineers, before falling on the road to TCU who needed the win to become bowl eligible.

As usual, Oklahoma State has one of the better offenses in the nation. They rank 10th in total yards, 14th in points scored, and 12th in passing yards. And as is usually the case, the Cowboys have one of the worst defenses in the nation.
The Cowboys rank 99th in total yards, 107th in passing yards, 81st in rushing yards, and 98th in points scored. The Cowboys will have a very hard time slowing down the Tigers in this one.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends
- Oklahoma State is 3-2 ATS in their last five games
- Missouri is 4-4 ATS in their last eight games
- Oklahoma State over is 4-1 in their last five games
- Missouri under is 4-1 in their last five games
Free Liberty Bowl NCAA Football Pick
It might not be Fourth of July, but the Liberty Bowl should have plenty of fireworks. Both offenses are quite prolific and it should be a very entertaining game.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Oklahoma State +8
However, I just don’t see Missouri being eight points better than Oklahoma State. I think this is a more evenly matched game than either what Vegas thinks are what the bettors think.
Oklahoma State has an offense that can score on just about any defense and Missouri is going to struggle stopping them on a consistent basis. I’ve got the Cowboys covering and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them pull of a win.
Either way, expect a close, high scoring game.
