The Memphis Tigers will be going back to the drawing board after losing a lot of momentum from their 3 straight wins to start by laying an egg at UCF last week.
UConn on the other hand will just be trying to pick up their first FBS win of the season with their lone victory on the year being a tight win over FCS Holy Cross at home to open the season.
Memphis Tigers
The Tigers followed up their top 25 upset victory over UCLA with a win over FCS Southern Illinois avoiding the dreaded letdown after a big win.
But then in an important conference game last week, the Tigers offense could not get anything going.

Going into the game averaging 43 points per game, the Tigers managed just 13 points with 6 coming on the last play of the game as time expired.
The Tigers did just about everything wrong last week – turning the ball over 4 times, giving up 350 rushing yards on 7.1 yards per rush, and converting just 4 of 12 third down attempts.
The last time the Tigers played the Huskies was in 2014 when they won by 31 at home as a 24 point favorite.

In order to maintain relevance in the AAC after their loss to UCF, the Tigers can’t afford any more slip ups – especially against a team that is struggling as much as UConn is.
The Tigers passing attack was good through the first three games and should be able to pick up where they left off against a UConn team that is allowing 380 passing yards per game early on.
Unlike recent UConn teams, this Huskies team can score a bit which the Tigers will have to hope to slow down. They have struggled on defense too allowing 514 yards and 36 points per game through 4 games.
UConn Huskies
The Huskies looked poised to pull off the upset at SMU last week as they tied the game early in the fourth quarter as 16.5 point underdogs.
The Huskies then allowed 21 unanswered to close off the game as the SMU offense just became too much to handle.
This Huskies team is certainly capable of putting points on the board while their defense has struggled – somewhat of the opposite of recent UConn teams.
Quarterback Bryant Shireffs was on fire last week completing 22 of 28 passes for 408 yards and 2 touchdowns.
They will need more of the same from Shireffs to keep pace with Riley Ferguson and the Tigers offense.
Shireffs just had one game over 300 passing yards last season but already has two this season with over 400 passing yards.

But the Huskies haven’t prevailed in an FBS game after barely holding off Holy Cross to open the season – a game in which their offense actually struggled.
The Memphis defense shouldn’t do much better slowing down the Huskies than the SMU defense did last week.
I think Shireffs continues to stay hot and the Huskies will hope to get just enough stops in a Friday night game at home with Memphis in a tough travel spot having played in Florida last Saturday night.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends
- UConn is 5-16-1 ATS in their last 22 home games.
- Memphis is 4-16-1 ATS in their last 21 games played on grass.
- Memphis is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games.
- UConn is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record.
Free Week 6 NCAA Football Pick
As you can see neither team has been a great betting pick of late with UConn being one of the worst ATS teams over the last few years. I wouldn’t feel comfortable betting on UConn in any circumstance and betting on Memphis on the road after their performance last week is scary too.
The over is the play here with both teams leading powerful offenses and having very poor defenses.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Over 72.5
Shireffs vs Ferguson isn’t exactly the premier quarterback matchup you would mark your calendar for but this certainly could be a fun one as one of the only two FBS games on Friday night.
